Trump lost. As time ticks without a China deal, Trump knows he failed. It's all about saving his face now. The tariffs could never work without any chip pressure on China. For China, tariffs are just something to manage, but for the US, whole US industries will be lost or stagnant without China. The real question is, why does China have to make a deal after Trump tore up all goodwill and US continues to threaten China with war? If China doesn't make a deal with the US, China can simply watch the US crumble its own industries.
