As crazy as it may sound, why do you need 3rd party authority in your marriage?. You and your partner should be able to talk things out and pray together. You people should say anything to give your pastor for example a high place in YOUR OWN MARRIAGE.

The issue about authority is not entire accurate. It's most likely a narrative extended from the "spiritual father" doctrine. Especially for a man, he needs to have advisors he looks up not, he does not need to be under authority, except that of Christ.
