A well written story with a proper character arc is something people can relate to. They will understand the object lesson in the story. If the lesson IS the story, as we see in most modern entertainment, people are more likely to reject it and not be satisfied.

Even Stan's body language is eloquent of his disdain for ideological screeds barely disguised as entertainment.

Stan Lee could write a story that could teach you six different lessons by the end of it, and those six lessons could be used in hundreds of scenarios. Comics today, their stories have just one lesson, one lesson, one scenario. "If you're a white man, shame on you."

There is a lot of wisdom in simplicity. Just because you're not beating the audience over the head with post modern pseudointellectual garbage doesn't mean the work is shallow. Quite the contrary. Brevity is the soul of wit. Behind all works are deeper stories and meaning under.

I really wish I could find the whole thing. Stan Lee and Will Eisner having a convo about comics? I need to see that!
