Elon Musk’s startup Neuralink has announced a breakthrough: a paralyzed man has managed to control a drone using only the power of thought. The patient, who suffered a spinal cord injury, used an implanted brain interface to steer the drone and later wrote computer code linking the Neuralink chip to the drone’s control system. It marks the first time a person with complete paralysis has remotely operated a device without any physical movement or external sensors. Neuralink says the technology could pave the way for restoring independence to people with severe injuries.
