The Congresswoman doesn't know this, but a Republican president by the name of Dwight D. Eisenhower expanded New Deal programs. Senate Majority Leader Lyndon B. Johnson reasoned that Democrats would look good if Eisenhower looked good. It helped that both men were from Texas.
