NEW: CA High-Speed Rail's cash crisis could mean the first, planned segment through the Central Valley ends up being shorter than expected, according to Inspector General Ben Belnap. Instead of Bakersfield to Merced, it would be Madera to... an orchard in rural Kern County:

Ashley, this was never about bringing "high speed rail" between SF to LA. This was about the largest theft of taxpayer dollars in recorded modern history and if on accident regular speed rail was brought to and from Madera to Gilroy, cool. Nothing here was designed to be efficient or beneficial to the taxpayer. This was waste, fraud and abuse at the highest of levels. But, we get the government we deserve right? Right?

why aren't you asking where the $18 billion that has already been spent went??? There's no way that small slab of cement that was built with no tracks or anything cost $18B

Make it privately funded and it’s built in 3 years

The first segment, really half segment since Phase 1 was originally planned from SF to LA, is shorter than Amtrak currently is from Bakersfield to Sacramento. California High Speed Rail only exists to distract and cover for the Greenhouse Gas Slush Fund. While everyone is looking at the 25% line item, they aren’t looking at the smaller contracts. Obvious kickbacks to donors and no show services that can be activated for political campaigning.

No one voted for that and no one would have voted for that. This fiasco must end.

LoL that's where I live and I'm telling you no one wants to come here. It's time to ditch the project and investigate where all the money really went.

If it weren’t for all of our tax money going up in flames I would be laughing hysterically right now. I’m laughing it’s just not funny anymore.

I’ll drive my own damned car thank you. I would like my 15,000 per taxpayer returned. I don’t ever remember voting or discussing a 230+ billion dollar low speed choo-choo train.

𝗖𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗩𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝘆 𝗠𝗼𝗻𝘂𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗙𝗮𝗶𝗹𝘂𝗿𝗲 A walk under one of the many, expensive, unused, eyesore monuments to the failures of California’s Democratic Party. These giant structures dotting the Central Valley are adjacent to impoverished communities and will not be placed into service for at least ten years, if ever. Delayed by construction traffic controls, local residents have a front row seat as they watch California’s misguided, High Speed Rail (HSR) project kick up dust and spend $ billions 💰 and $ billions 💰 of taxpayer dollars on unused overpasses that cross above roads, canals, rivers, and railways as Central Valley farming communities are divided by the fenced off HSR route. This particular structure crosses the in-service Amtrak line just south of Wasco. The existing line has been carrying passengers between Bakersfield and Northern California since 1899 when originally placed into service by Sante Fe Railroad. Today, Amtrak connects Bakersfield to Sacramento on this line. It’s a three hour Amtrak ride from Bakersfield to Merced including stops in Wasco and Hanford. HSR will not stop in Wasco. However, Wasco Amtrak passengers now have to walk through an underground walkway below the new, unused HSR structure in Wasco to get from the parking lot to the shiny, new replacement Amtrak platform. The Wasco Amtrak platform was working fine but was newly constructed as a part of the HSR project. Since the Amtrak line and the HSR are nearly parallel at this location, the overpass shown in the video had to be enormous. How many $ billions 💰 of taxpayer dollars will be spent to transport people between Bakersfield and Merced a little bit faster than Amtrak’s current three hour service? There’s no justification for spending so much money for so little benefit, that might occur ten years from now, or more.
