A 61-year-old Uber driver is recovering after being violently assaulted by a passenger during a ride on Interstate 95, an attack captured on disturbing dashcam footage.😳| #ONLYinDADE *🗞️ According to the victim’s family, the driver, Diego Ruben Cariao Reyes Ortiz, was transporting a passenger to Miami International Airport when the incident occurred Friday afternoon amid heavy rush-hour traffic. The video shows what appears to be a normal ride before the passenger, later identified as 20-year-old Isaiah Norton, suddenly lunges forward from the back seat and begins repeatedly punching and grabbing the driver while the vehicle is still in motion. Despite the ongoing assault, Ortiz managed to pull the car over to the side of the highway. Norton continued to strike, grab, and yell at the driver before Ortiz was able to escape the vehicle. Dashcam video then shows Norton moving into the front seat, apparently attempting to take control of the car, before fleeing the scene. Ortiz was transported to a hospital, where he was treated for bruises and additional injuries. Authorities say Norton remains in custody at the Joseph V. Conte Facility, facing charges of battery and resisting an officer. In a statement, Uber confirmed the passenger has been permanently removed from the platform.
