Another look at FURIA ROYALE in UE5, this time without Lumen dynamic lighting and featuring the bonus game mode. I still prefer the lumen look, but I think I've managed to achieve a solid alternative that pairs well with the new character skin shaders. More importantly, it's significantly less demanding on the GPU👍 #gamedevelopment #solodev #IndieGameDev #gamedev

It looks like #HaloCampaignEvolved relies exclusively on Hardware Lumen for its Global Illumination and Reflections, with no Software Lumen fallback. I did a quick test on the 3060 Ti by disabling the “Raytracing (DXR)” flag in NVIDIA Profile Inspector, which basically disables the GPU's ray tracing support. This gives a significant performance boost, but it completely disables the game’s Lumen GI and Reflections. So even though the game uses Hardware Lumen, it can still run on non-RT GPUs, albeit with substantially degraded visuals.

I got something crazy for today - custom GI from a plugin in #UE5!! This is super rough and unoptimized sketch, but it's already faster than Lumen, though of course it's muuuch less accurate. Here I'm just imitating Large Scale AO using Global SDFs, no sun light bounces yet.

#UnrealEngine After making some engine modification to Vite now I'm able to make a totally unfair comparison. Vite with RT GI + RT Reflections + DFAO + Tessellation No dips below 60 fps 5.7 #Lumen With Reflections Goes as low as 12fps! 5x slower 5.7 No Dynamic GI, No reflections, Shadows/AO of less quality No dips below 50 fps (20% slower) Yes, even when running both #Raytraced GI and Reflections the #AMD #RDNA2 6700 (#PS5 Equivalent) outperforms barebones #UE5 on UE Vite I made a video recording with my phone to display the actual framerate as PC recording lowers FPS: Download the builds and try for yourself: Join and post your results: Support Vite: #gamedev #rendering #engine

Walking through a desert Canyon When you use physical based values for Lighting. Unreal Engine 5.5.4 Lumen Your scene will look more realistic and materials pbr will behave correctly. In this example I am using HDR skylight with Directional Light and volumetric fog using values for Sunset day EV100 min/max set to range from 9 to 11 and Lux intensity for sun range from 400 to 1,000 lux. This is a quick test that I did exactly 4 years ago while searching for rendering solutions for BFS in UnrealEngine. You see millions of Nanite meshes, with their transformations injected directly into GPUSceneInstanceSceneData. You could do rigid animations on that buffer too with all culling being performed. At some point we completely removed triangulated preprocessed meshes, so Nanite and Lumen and finally Niagara had to be disabled. In the end we ended with using a mixture of raymarching inside rasterized BBoxes and global voxel grid for destructive world. Sebastian Aaltonen being a huge inspriration here

Here is a full showcase of my custom Source 2-like light baking and probe implementation for Unreal Engine 5. Features showcased: - Volume based probe system (full density control, fade between volumes with a volume fade slider, automatic volume priority and custom priority overrides) - GPU Lightmass with expanded features like a custom denoiser and overall QOL (like a bake volume which only bakes objects inside the volume for fast prototyping) - Custom Box Capture implementation to make it easier to use (basically just a custom way of scaling the box capture component since its so annoying) - A custom fullbright viewport option for easier map editing (without having to get visual clutter in the way) Will eventually release on FAB as a plugin for UE 5.7. First real look at my sword fighting hobby project - Responsive, accurate, freeform combat using physics that are fun, not frustrating, with intuitive controls that are easy to learn, hard to master. A lot of physics based sword fighting games have come out lately but IMO none strike that difficult balance between control, animation and physics...trying my best to pull it off here. This early test is hacked together but it's already showing promise. Feels good to attack and defend and really gives you the feeling that you are fighting with a sword; distance, timing, weapon placement, etc. all matter. Anyway, very WIP with lots to do...and for once, don't look at the feet! I'll take care of that someday ;) #UE5 #gamedev #physics #swordfighting

If you have high Lp(a), like me, here are 5 things you need to know to protect your heart: 1. Lp(a) is ~90% genetic. While it can be influenced at the margins (e.g. inflammation), most people have a genetic “floor.” I inherited mine from my father. Do you know yours? 2. Your genes may be fixed—but your jeans aren’t. Specifically, visceral fat matters. People with low waist-to-hip ratios, a proxy for less visceral fat, often show little to no added cardiovascular risk from high Lp(a). Why? Because Lp(a) interacts with the metabolic environment. 3.
