Here’s First Minister of Scotland John Swinney failing to answer questions from Murdo Fraser MSP in the Scottish Parliament today. Murdo expressed that prior to today’s u-turn by the the Scottish Prison Service the shocking initial indication from them was that they would not be complying with the law and continuing to allow male bodied prisoners in the female estate. He then asked the First Minister how much tax payer money was spent “defending the indefensible” and asked if Mr Swinney would now meet with For Women Scotland to hear their concerns on behalf of vulnerable women. Predictably, the First Minister said the case had been “complicated” and failed to answer either question.

Here is Douglas Ross asking this question. The Lord Advocate gave no answer, responding only to the first part of his question by saying that she cannot be expected to have answers to anything beyond the precise wording of the urgent question. Which is pretty farcical.
