Croatia was kicked out of the match because Matanic touched the ball with his hair AND the referee had to decide if Viega’s contact with the ball is considered “deliberate play”. If yes, the goal was correct, but the referee decided “no”. But what are the rules saying? In FIFA and IFAB Laws of the Game, deliberate play is when a player has control of the ball and attempts to pass, gain possession, or clear it. *‘Deliberate play’ (excluding deliberate handball) is when a player has control of the ball with the possibility of: •passing the ball to a team-mate; •gaining possession of the ball; or •clearing the ball (e.g. by kicking or heading it) ➡️clearing the ball (e.g. by kicking or heading it) And that’s what Viega did. He cleared the ball. But a Croatian player managed to intercept the ball before it went out of play; that led to the goal. Croatia was robbed. Source in comments.

When Mosquera completely misjudged that header and sent it straight towards his own post, it was chaos in the box. The kind of situation where you smell a goal before it even happens. Dalot saw it too. You could tell by his body language. He started celebrating before the ball had even crossed the line. But here’s the part that hurts. He also clearly saw the Wolves goalkeeper charging out to recover. Instead of reacting, instead of rushing him, blocking his line, doing anything to make sure that ball goes in, Dalot just stood there, frozen in assumption. Seconds later, the keeper clears it off the line. That should’ve been a winning goal. Dalot was in the perfect position to make the difference. A half-second sprint, one aggressive movement, and the ball is in the net. Instead, he chose celebration over responsibility. And this is the real problem with too many United players right now. They don’t give 100% in the decisive moments. They assume, they admire, they switch off. And that lack of edge is what keeps costing us games. You have to fight until the ball is in the back of the net, not until you think it is.

Yadav first of all gets to it before it goes out, then he tosses it in the air to re-gain his balance and momentum, gets back in field and secures the catch. Unbelievable presence of mind

This pitch was fouled off down into the ground, or so the Oakland A’s Lawrence Butler thought. The ball hit in the back of the batters box but then skipped out in front of home plate. Butler didn’t run and the Yankees catcher picked it up and tagged him. The umpire ruled Butler out. A couple of things - One, I always thought the back of home plate was the furthest point back for a fair ball. Anything behind that was foul territory. Two- I never knew they had a female umpire in MLB. 🤯 Do you think that was a fair or foul ball? And, did you know MLB had a female umpire? What’s your feeling on that?
