Every promise Silicon Valley is making about AI curing disease just hit the one person qualified to check it. She has spent her whole career inside the actual frontier of curing disease. So when she talks about what AI can and cannot do in biology, she is not guessing. She is reporting from inside the lab. Her words were blunt. She is not seeing chatbots innovate. They summarize data. They write reports. They do not come up with a brand new idea nobody has ever had. Then the interviewer pushed. So you're saying AI can't innovate? Doudna did not flinch. She does not know if it can't. She just does not see it doing it right now. This lands harder when you remember who is making the opposite case. Sam Altman says AI will eliminate disease within five years. Larry Ellison says AI will cure cancer in a 48 hour window. An OpenAI executive even floated that the company should get a cut of sales on any drug discovered through ChatGPT. Doudna answered that in two words. Good luck. Even the cancer specialists Altman is selling to keep warning that cancer is not one disease but hundreds, each needing its own cure, and that compute does not skip the years of lab work. Her reason is simpler. Biology is hard. You cannot simulate your way to an understanding of the human body. The people promising cures are the ones selling the tool. So, I'm just just going to go ahead and say what a lot of people are already thinking about or are already in agreement with (due to their own first-hand experiences) in saying that, ever since the unfortunate passing of the late Akira Toriyama, the torch of his memory which SHOULD’VE been handled with honor, now feels like it has been dropped by the very company who was entrusted with preserving his legacy. I love Dragon Ball. I have been a fan of this franchise for over 25 years. I have poured my time, my money and a large part of my life into this franchise. Dragon Ball has given me more than I could possibly begin to express or put into words. My passion and my love for Dragon Ball is real. But to me, I think that the heads of the Dragon Ball IP and the executives who call the shots have done nothing but stagnate this franchise into the void because within recent years, they have done nothing provide us with a clear and transparent roadmap to look forward to. There have been no new updates or developments leading up to the return of the Dragon Ball Super Manga and the next major arc to unfold within it. Which speaking of “New DBS Arcs”, they introduced Black Frieza for the very first time (from literally out of nowhere, mind you) which happened 3 YEARS AGO, in watching him close out the Granolah Arc, only to NEVER BE SEEN or heard from by anyone, ever again with the exception of cover art. The Dragon Ball Super Anime was abandoned in March 2018 (Yes, abandoned - don’t try and insulate otherwise). Dragon Ball Daima ended (with the English dub ending soon). The Super Dragon Ball Heroes Anime and Manga were both shit-canned and have ended. Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero was 3 years ago. Dragon Ball Super: Broly was almost 7 years ago. Battle of Gods and Resurrection F are both 10+ years old. The games are currently carrying the IP forward, but to what extent? The list goes on. And You know EXACTLY what I’m talking about as well because everyone has felt it and everyone can see it. The company behind this franchise and the figureheads who sit in charge of having to oversee it, are clueless, indecisive and directionless. There are NO EXCUSES behind their inconsistency, no matter how badly someone tries to tell you otherwise. I love Dragon Ball, and I'm pretty certain that YOU do as well. Dragon Ball deserves so much better. The fans deserve so much better. And Akira Toriyama’s legacy deserves to be highlighted for what it’s done and for what it’s grown into, and not simply kept frozen within corporate indecision, incompetence and greed. Part two of his interview with tame liberal/ progressive presenter Kerre Woodham where he pretty much caves in on every issue that matters. Not happy with distancing himself from the Trump presidency he goes on to stab both of his coalition partners in the back by making light of two issues they plainly believe are important. He joins in with the host in denigrating David Seymour’s Treaty Principles Bill. They then both go on to make light of Winston Peter’s resistance to the unwanted and informal attempt by the legacy media and separatist radicals to change the country’s name. No matter which side you’re on, these are two vital issues to a lot of New Zealanders. I personally know many who are absolutely fired up over the use of the totally inapplicable word Aotearoa instead of (or along with) New Zealand. “Petty point scoring” Ms Woodham calls it. The Prime Minister proves in this clip just what a spineless compromiser he is at heart and that he is absolutely the wrong man for this time and place.
