After an opening 74 at the PGA Championship that he described as “shit”, Rory McIlroy bounced back with a bogey free 67 that he says was “not as shit” to comfortably make the cut. Despite unanimous praise from fans about the Aronimink set up, Rory is not as impressed: “The only thing I would say is, I think a bunched leaderboard like this, I think it's a sign of not a great setup, I think when it's as bunched as it is, because it hasn't really enabled anyone to separate themselves. It's like, you know, it's easy to make a ton of pars, hard to make birdies, and not that it's hard to make bogey, but it feels like bogey's the worst score you're going to shoot on any one hole. “There's not a lot of hazards. There's not, you know -- yeah, I think the setup is fine, like the golf course is good, the pins were tough, and the wind was what it was as well. But I just think, yeah, I've always felt like really good setups, it starts to spread the field a bit, and not great setups sort of bring everyone together. I feel like that's what's happened the last two days.” Rory is 5 shots back of the lead in T30th position heading into the weekend and says he still feels like he is in with a chance: “At five back I do feel like I'm right in the tournament, and that's really what I wanted to do today was to just get myself back in it, and I feel like I've done that.” Rory has a Saturday pairing with Brooks Koepka at 11am EST. He will need 2 low ones over the next 2 days if he is to claim his third PGA Championship and be halfway towards completing the calendar year Grand Slam. Rory McIlroy PGA Championship

Rory McIlroy on Shinnecock Hills: "It's an amazing golf course because the playing corridors are wide. The greens are pretty small. They can tuck the pins away in little nooks and crannies and Andy Johnson will love me saying this, but you do have to think about angles."

Rory McIlroy was asked ahead of The Open if he agrees with the idea that “Trackman Golfers” don’t do well at Opens: “No, I wouldn't totally agree with that. I think that TrackMan or any launch monitor, it's a very useful tool. I think you can get too into the numbers, which then can be detrimental. I think, yeah, TrackMan can be very useful. It can be -- I think it can actually help you with the feel of your golf swing at times. “If you see a certain number on TrackMan, it gives you a feeling of what you need to do, so if you can sort of match up the number you see on the screen with a feel that you have in your golf swing, I actually think you can become more feel-based. “I use TrackMan a lot in season because I feel like it's hard to work on technical positions when you're just trying to manage your pattern through the course of the season. I use TrackMan where it's like, okay, my path's getting a little to the right, I've just got to feel like I swing more left. Or my face angle is getting a bit left and I've got to feel like I hold it a bit more square through impact, whatever it is. “To me, I actually feel like it's a great tool to use when your swing gets off a bit and you can sort of train your feels back into where they need to be.” Rory McIlroy The Open LKD

Rory McIlroy on Thursday's course setup: "The greens are pretty slow and quite receptive. I think they need to be at this point. It's a challenging golf course already, and you put 30-mile-an-hour winds on top of it, it tests the best players in the world pretty well. "I think they were prudent with the course setup, and they made sure to -- I think especially with starting with 156 the first two days, you just want to get everyone around without too much issue. They've set the course up for that, at least today."

Adam Scott has the chance to be the first Australian to win the FedExCup title and just the fourth player to ever win the Tour Championship multiple times today. After a third round 65 at East Lake, he’s just 3 shots back of the lead of Viktor Hovland heading into the final round. Adam spoke on Saturday about the position he’s in: “I think it's a good -- I mean, it's a good spot. Within striking distance. It's so congested, though, it's going to need a really great round, I think. I think there's someone lurking who's going to have that. “I think I can kind of stick with my game plan of being fairly conservative at least for the front nine, and if I can execute that, then maybe I've got to start flag hunting a little bit and being a bit more aggressive than I have been, but I'll try to play that by ear when I'm out there. “It's fun to be in the mix for the TOUR Championship and the FedExCup.” There’s currently 6 players within 3 shots of the lead, with Rory McIlroy and Cameron Young and further 2 back. It should be a fun Sunday at East Lake. TOUR Championship PGA Tour

Like it's a much softer deal than what Brooks took to come back and play on the PGA Tour…” “Obviously Jon doesn't think so, and he's obviously well within his rights to think that way. “I played well, I certainly saw some improvements on the greens compared to last week. It’s an encouraging start and I feel like I could have been a couple better at least but a 69 isn’t a bad score to start with. “I said last week in Ireland, I see encouraging signs in my game and it’s just a matter of sticking with it, sticking with some of the feels I’ve got in my swing. Hopefully, over time that’ll start to feel more natural and I can just get into the flow of visualising shots, hitting shots and being a bit more instinctive on the course. “Obviously this week is a really big week, there’s a lot of points on offer. I didn’t have the greatest of weeks last week and Patrick (Reed) played well so I dropped a little bit further behind him.” Rory McIlroy reflects on an opening round 69 (-3) 💬 #BMWPGA | #RolexSeries
