Ryan Caldwell had visited an Animal Shelter in Portland, Oregon three times before that Tuesday. He wasn't sure why he kept going back. He wasn't in a position to adopt - his lease had a strict no-pets clause and he hadn't worked up the nerve to ask his landlord about it yet. He told himself he was just looking. On his third visit, a staff member suggested he spend some time in kennel nine with a two-year-old grey mixed breed named Otis who had been there six weeks and was struggling with the transition. Ryan said sure. He sat on the floor of the kennel for about twenty minutes while Otis slowly worked up to him — sniffing from a distance, then closer, then curling up against Ryan's leg. Ryan scratched behind his ears and they sat together in the kennel while the shelter noise went on around them. Then visiting hours started winding down and Ryan stood up to leave. He turned toward the door. And Otis wrapped both front paws around his ankle and held on. Not jumping. Not barking. Just gripping, face pressed against Ryan's shin, shaking in a steady, quiet way that Ryan said was harder to look at than anything loud or dramatic would have been. "There was nothing frantic about it," Ryan said. "It was just — please. That's all it was." Ryan stood in that kennel doorway for a long time. He didn't pull away. When he finally left, he went directly to his car and called his landlord. His landlord said yes. Ryan was back at the shelter the following morning when it opened. Otis came home that afternoon. The lease now has a signed pet addendum clipped to the front page. Sometimes the most important question doesn't need words. It just needs someone willing to hold on until the answer changes.

Mom here: Sam has been having a little trouble with his back legs. Nothing new, just more dramatic lately. His back legs gave out trying to go up a flight of stairs - which is new. So we sat on the floor together and shared blueberries. Calling the vet to get him in for his Ketamine and Librela shot which always seem to help. Growing old is part of life, we will care for him just as he cared for me for so many years. Video: Sam lying on a tile floor being fed blueberries.

I got 5.37 seconds. I timed him with a stopwatch from his first step at the 50 until he reached the 10. What time did you get? I had to go back two years because Sanders only has one run in his 4 year college career over 40 yards on his ESPN stats page —and it was in this game when he played for FCS Jackson State vs. Southern in 2022. The record for the slowest time at the NFL Combine for a quarterback according to the USA Today is 5.37 by Ryan Mallet.

I keep seeing this trend of photos and videos of women from the ’90s versus today with the Goo Goo Dolls’ song Iris playing in the background. — Here I am in 1998 at 28—before being saved by Jesus—and here I am today at 54. —I would never want to go back. I wore the saddest smile in the world back then. This lady was filming these parents who were in the car line at school 2 1/2 hours before school gets out. She says don’t be like them. But many people said it’s worth not having to deal with the traffic and backup and some parents may work closer to the school and it beats driving all the way back home and then coming back. I have been known to go get in line at the school about an hour before they get out so I can beat it as well. Sometimes I’ll catch up on emails, phone calls and even take a nap. Have you ever gone this early to get in the car line? Have you ever wondered when you have left early how these people are here before you? Does this bother you like it does this woman or to each their own?

He didn’t even grow up here. He was born in New Jersey simply because his parents were there at the time, but was immediately taken back to Turkey, where everyone is raised hating America, Christians and Jews. He was already an adult when he moved back to the U.S. He’s not even a product of domestic radicalization, since his entire worldview was shaped by his Islamic Turkish upbringing.
