She's tiny, blue, and just adorable! A newly identified octopus species, small enough to fit in the palm of your hand, was discovered near Darwin Island in the Galápagos Islands. The little creature was first spotted in 2015 by researchers aboard a submersible in waters nearly 5,800 feet deep. Until now, the species was among the estimated 91% of potential marine species still unknown to humans, a figure from a 2011 study published in PLoS Biology.
