New UN Environment Programme report warns that global temperatures are likely to exceed the 1.5°c target in the coming years. Executive Director Inger Andersen stressed that the focus must now be on limiting how high temperatures rise and bringing them back down as quickly as possible.

The UK has entered its third heatwave this year with temperatures expected to climb as high as 35°C in some areas later this week. The Met Office said that South East England has now officially met the heatwave criteria, after three days of temperatures above 28. Temperatures are set to continue to rise across the UK throughout the week, and more regions are likely to reach their local heatwave thresholds.
