Why is it so cool? Because it is on the OUTSIDE of the fish, and is small and transparent, making it great for imaging. Here is a close look at the blood and lymphatic vessels in the ALO.

We combined single-cell RNAseq, HCR, transgenic lines, TEM, and array tomography (below) to identify the cells that make up the ALO. Here is a close look at the cells in the dermal cortex. A big thanks to collaborators @KedarNarayan2 and Chris Dell at NCI

Interestingly, we noticed that solitary chemosensory cells (like the cells in taste buds) in the ALO have two microvilli extending into the environment! We also captured goblet cells releasing mucus!
