The kids are never going to believe us. I am in a state of mourning the world we grew up in, which sounds dramatic but it’s true. I’m so freaked out by all the cameras and phones when I see these old clips.

When I see stuff like this, I cannot stop thinking about how much better it really was, how many of these people had different fates, and how many of them passed away.

Translation: all it takes is 26 years to lose a country. I was at Times Square all night on 12/31/99. I went to the city countless times around this time. I just spent our 250th birthday watching the tall ships on the Hudson. It’s not the same. NYC no longer feels like America. Why? The people.

The Twin Towers stood tall. No electronic devices in sight. Zero awareness of the devastation on the brink of hitting with September 11th and the bulldozing effects of digital life.
