#Newsnight ends tonight’s programme with a tribute to DJ Steve Wright – described by his close friend Ken Bruce as a “brilliant broadcaster” who “respected his listeners and believed they deserved nothing less”.

But the BBC retired him early. Would it not have been better to have applauded him when he was still alive?
