Watch this India Today report and read the most damning sections of the Calcutta High Court-appointed three-member committee report on the Murshidabad riots. Most Shocking Findings 1.All the attacks were carried out on Friday, April 11th, from 2 PM onwards, allegedly under instructions from local councillor Mehbub Alam. The police and administration remained inactive. 2.Mehbub Alam reportedly arrived at the scene with the miscreants and personally oversaw the destruction of homes. 3.The local MLA is said to have supervised the vandalism to ensure it was being executed as intended. After observing the destruction alongside the attackers, he left the scene. 4.A man named Amirul Islam allegedly identified houses that had not yet been targeted and directed the miscreants to those locations, which were then set ablaze. Additional Details of the Incident 1.Bhadu Mondal stated that on Friday, April 11th, around 4 PM, their shops and market stalls were looted. The following day, around noon, their house was set on fire. (What was the state police doing during this time?) 2.A total of 113 houses were damaged. Even after fleeing to Malda for safety, victims were forcibly brought back by the police. (This suggests that the photos circulated by local Trinamool Congress MLAs and MPs showing people “returning” were actually staged through coercion. These individuals should also be investigated.) Valuables worth lakhs — including jewelry, cash, furniture, and livestock — were looted. 3.During the violence in Betbona, calls were made to the police on Friday at 4 PM and again on Saturday at 4 PM. No calls were answered. 4.Debashis Ghosh reported that the local administration promptly ordered his abandoned home to be cleaned — raising serious questions about their priorities. 5.Amirchand Mondal stated that he and his family were locked inside their home, which was then doused with petrol in an attempt to set it on fire. They were rescued by the BSF. 6.Gopal Mondal revealed that the administration forcibly removed them from their shelter and left them in an open field, forcing them to live under the open sky. 7.Miscreants shut off all water sources near the homes so that fires couldn’t be extinguished. (Is this possible without administrative support?) Women’s clothes were deliberately burned so they had nothing left to wear. 8.The police station is located just 300 meters from where all of these incidents occurred.
