Did you notice how the color changes about a third of the way up? It's because they ran out of funding in the 1850s and 20 years later when they resumed building, the marble came from a different quarry hence the change in color. Fun fact!

Last time I was in DC was 8th grade. Our trip was limited because the pentagon was still rebuilding from the 9/11 attacks

@albert1776 The Washington monument was the tallest building in the world until the Eiffel Tower in 1896.

Another neat fact for you. The cap of the monument is aluminum becaue it was the most valuable metal on the planet at the time.
