Next time someone mentions reparations point them to this excellent video by historian Thomas Fitzgerald. Obviously he can't tackle the whole history of slavery in 3 minutes but he puts African slavery into perspective.

So Africans started enslaving their own people first, so they set the example! Arabs followed the example of Africans on a much wider scale. English ended the Slave Trade and endured the loss of life and the financial burden to free everybody! Africans still enslave today but want to blame the people who gave them freedom and insist we owe them in reparations. When the reality is we paid many times over already! What price do you put on freedom? That is what every descendant of slavery owes to England! But we paid your bill for you!

The Barbary Pirates, were some of the worst African slavers, and Europe slavers. The Templars, and Hospitallers, often rescued them and returned them home.

The current crop of race-baiting politicians are continuing the tradition of profiting off exploitation of their own people

I’m tired of all the 80 year old videos of the blacks being lynched and lashed by the Democrats. All these stories more than 300 years old are B O R I N G. Please get some fresh material. We are 25 years into the 21st Century.

Didn't know that slaves were imported to the USA after 1808. So smuggling occurred even much later?

I'd have to say that thinking slavery in Africa only preceded the Atlantic Slave Trade by 1000 years is several thousands of years short of the actual figure.

The people who talk reparations are not interested in factual information.

Africa's tragedy is that her history is articulated by Europeans who hate African natives. This man says "Slavery in Africa pre-dates the Arabs in much of Sub,Saharan Africa"- this is mighty false and Dishonest statement. There was NO slavery in Africa before Arabs came in 640 AD

AMERICANS TAUGHT DISTORTED HISTORY OF SLAVERY Despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary, it remains a stubborn myth that the North of the US was not involved in slavery. The prevailing narrative is that slavery was only deeply entrenched in the societal fabric of the South. In this clip, speaking in support of H.R. 40, a bill proposing a commission to study reparations for slavery, filmmaker Katrina Browne, a Philadelphia native, explains how the North was complicit in slavery. Along with nine relatives, Browne retraced her own family journey, discovering that they were the largest slave-trading family in US history - transporting over 12,000 Africans to the Americas in chains. She recounts that learning the history of her Rhode-Island ancestors led to the realisation that the only reason most Americans are ignorant of the North’s slave history is because Americans are taught a distorted version of history. Browne spotlights facts that contradict the idea that the North had little involvement, including the fact that Rhode Island, where her family roots lie, sent more ships to Africa in the European slave trade than any other state in the slave business, which spanned across centuries. A wide array of industries in the North profited as a result - from shipping to finance - meaning that slavery was largely responsible for the economic rise of the US as a whole. Browne ended by stating that an understanding of true history should come with acceptance of the realities of what Black people were subjected to at the hands of White enslavers. She said that what Black people want is true understanding and repair, which must encompass meaningful solutions such as reparations to rectify the injustices, not revenge. Video Credit:
