I live in mountain lion and bear country. The discussion with my friends is not about having or not having a gun when hiking or biking. The question is which caliber.

Oh, almost every anti-gun person who sees this is mad the man shot the mountain lion. They legit think that either a "warning shot" would have worked, or the man shouldn't have been there, and thus shouldn't have been able to defend himself. They do not believe in self-defense.

#1 deal with the life threatening animal and leave your phone in your pocket. #2: Warning shots are a bad idea AGAINST HUMANS, animals can't understand a drawn gun. Put a bullet into the dirt near the lion so maybe it understands.

I would have fucking shot it immediately. That thing is lightning quick. It's on top of you and gnawing at your throat before you even know what happened. He got lucky. His hesitation could have gotten him killed or seriously injured.

I was the same distance from a mountain lion on a trail on Mt Cuyamaca in California. It looked at me with some concern but it seemed relieved when I kept walking. Mountain lion attacks are extremely rare, and even then, usually on children or bicyclists.

Never go into the woods without my sidearm. Just need an Akaska Rig and a .357

Try walking backwards away from it. If it takes a step toward you, one warning shot to the ground in front of it. If it is unfazed, and still walks toward you, empty the magazine.

Your suppose to scream at it, making yourself bigger than it. Also, keep breathing, don't stop. If that does not work, the gun is your only way out.

I've seen this before, and this is why you always have pepper spray holstered on your off hand side. He could fix this with one harsh lesson about going near humans, without killing. Cats are exceptionally sensitive to pepper spray, it will end this immediatley. Bring your gun.
