Next time white women want to talk about institutionalizing disabled people, you may want to ask permission from your husbands first.

People have no idea how deep the history of institutionalization goes. They think only disabled folks and those they think are undesirables get locked away. When the reality is that anyone can become 'undesirable' once they go against the patriarchal, capitalistic system.

In north carolina my sister got committed November 29 2023. All she was trying to do was leave her husband and get her son help . They cleared her in 24 hours, but All he told the judge was, She wasn't sleeping and Show them pictures of her .

I'm reminded of how outraged nondisabled white women are 𝘯𝘰𝘸 about the government being in their doctors' offices after their decades of bipartisan support for the drug war pushing the government into our doctors' offices.

As a white woman in my early 50’s, I am amazed at how many of my peers are truly ignorant of institutionalization of people with disabilities…and women in general…even well into recent times…or even worse things…

Facts. I need to psychiatrist for a specific med for some of my simple issues. My area (2 counties) has a lack of services. I have been on the wait list since 8/2022. Was just told today, I have at least another 2 years on the list, like wtf. Seeking elsewhere now.

I found out about this book today. It was featured on PBS Newshour. I’m going to see if it’s available at my library. I don’t know this history very well. Leaving this here in case anyone else is interested.
