Learning a playbook is simple memorization any can do. The real difference is the ability to read and react to what your opponent is running. That’s what makes football hard.

I had classes with NFL players in college. Most are twice as dumb as the very average student even in the classes specifically for athletes.

Learning it as a qb compared to any other position is a bit different. I’m sure a month or 2 for everybody except qb. Qb probably 6 months to a yr

I feel like people are oversimplifying it. They’re not necessarily the smartest people but they’ve all learned playbooks for years, if not a decade. It’s going to take the average person some time to read and comprehend everything in a playbook. It’s not like reading Harry Potter
