NFL teams should consider adding Sumo Wrestlers to their offensive lines. He held back Micah Parsons without even trying. Most don’t realize how impressive this is. Parsons is 6-foot-3, 245 pounds 🤯🤯

He's literally holding him, that's a 10 yard penalty and in the open field Micah Parsons will run circles around E Honda

Grand Sumo wrestler Ura performs takedown of much larger Takayasu using incredibly rare technique, only the 6th time in 25 years (0.02% winning technique)

All these comments saying, yeah but wait until the Edge Rusher runs around them… you actually think Sumo wrestlers don’t have fast feet and explosive moves? Elite Sumo are unbelievably fast.

This sounds cute until you realize that defensive linesmen are not paid to push through the offensive linesmen like idiots. Make this Sumo guy try to defend a mannequin behind him against Jadewon Clowney. The swim techniques of modern NFL athletes are no joke.

Teams will speed rush off the edge and just send corner blitz The best way to beat a brick wall is to literally run around it🤷‍♂️

Unnecessary roughness to vehicles, 15 yard penalty, offense.

They basically did that with Refrigerator Perry until he got too fat to run.

Most of sumo isn't mass, it's technique and low center, and leverage. The mass's advantage is reduced if the technique isn't good. Rather than having sumo lineman you could just train lineman in sumo and not have them have to be as heavy, although I imagine there are teams that already do this.

How.. have sumos.. never tried to make a career in the NFL? They are insanely strong, & quick..

This one on one is impressive, but you put a line of sumos out on an NFL field and they will get embarrassed beyond belief.

I have never thought of that before, might work. Or why hasn't the NFL incorporated some Sumo training for linemen? Looks like it might up the game considerably.

Football is played in a little circle, they'd have to actually move their feet.

Back in 2001, one of the top Japanese sumo wrestlers tried his luck but couldn’t make it I remember some sumo wrestlers visiting the 49ers training camp in the 90s too. Different sport and different skills

The premise is sound but the details incorrect. As o-lineman, Sumos don’t have the quickness to block NFL defensive linemen. But Sumos would make fantastic d-tackles. They are literally built and trained to stand their ground and hold their spot. Nobody would move them.

If they were good they’d be in the NFL. They don’t have the lateral movement and in the NFL you wouldn’t be trying to push them back you’re trying to get past them.

No. Holding is legal in sumo, not in football. There is some overlap, to be sure, in the talent pool, but if you start using sumo techniques in the NFL, you'll give up 10 yards every snap.

Used to live in Japan…saw lots of sumo. The sumo guys wouldn’t last five min in a CFL or NFL game. The average sumo match lasts six or seven seconds (a match a day over a 15 day tournament) and the rikishi are built for power, not mobility….they can’t run very well.

Parsons is trying to wrestle him, not go around him. Besides, they would have to learn to not use their hands
