"You walk on into that business, ask to speak with the man himself, shake his hand, firmly, then the job is yours."

Ngl (not gonna lie)

you would just go from factory to factory until one hired you on the spot, and yes. I knew guys who supported family, in a house, with just a factory job things were much easier then

“Ngl (not gonna lie)” lmao (laughing my ass off)

This is not far off from how my grandfather got his first job 😭

My old uncle started working as a banker after being a driver for a manager at the bank. Because he used to tell him cool stories, the manager promoted him to teller, and then that manager retired. What a life back then.

Remember, all it takes is a FIRM handshake 🤝😭🤣

We had these moral meetings, the general manager was there going on about how he saw some trash on the ground...watched folks walk by without picking it up. Someone asked the general manager why he didn't just pick it up himself. General manager stopped having the meetings.

This was before the rise of credentialism and the massive subsidization of college for the whole populace

1965 - Suit and tie Walk in any business Ask for job. Firm handshake. Get job. 2026 - Suit and tie Walk in any business Ask for job. Receptionist: SECURITY! Get trespassed.

Firm handshake was key

Lmao my dad told me stories like these before he left for milk

And the only thing they have to do at work is wear a big suit, walk around the office, drink a lil whisky at his desk & smoke cigarettes

Attack on Titan background music at the end lmao

My first job was literally a grocery store employee asking me if I wanted a job because i was always doing the shopping for my family. I didn't even fill out the application for a week after I started the next day. Not a boomer though.

Meanwhile Millennial’s experience: “Oh you are absolutely flawless and perfect for the job and have great enthusiasm? We chose to proceed with a different candidate just because his mother fucks the CEO.”

They still expect it to be this way. I kid you not, somebody applied for a cleaning job and they required 10 years of experience for a fudging cleaning job...

Meanwhile in another universe:

Make fun of boomers, but people are too stuck on social media they don’t make friends or network. You can still get a job today from knowing someone who knows someone

If gen Z spent the energy and effort they use to post on social media and funnel that into a looking for an viable career they could stop bitching n crying. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

I gotta say, he's quite a good actor, delivering his lines and facial expressions well.

🤣🤣🤣

Then they went and bought a lake house. Town house. Country house. On a year worth salary. The salary was the median salary for the time.

my grandparents talk about how this worker would just only work 3 days a week or whenever he wanted to and nobody cared..

This is a hilarious skit🤣 but exposes an undeniable fact. Truthfully, the quest to landing a job has changed dramatically between generations. It's easier in some ways but a lot harder in other ways too.

Literally how the used to draft players in the NBA top 3. “Hey, this guy is really tall.” “So is this guy.” “This guy can jump really high.” “He’s European like Dirk.”

And now, if you go to the store or wherever, they will look at you like you're crazy and then tell you to go to their outdated website that looks like it is one click away from someone stealing all of your information, put in your zip code, and find no locations are hiring.

"Sorry we don't accept resumes delivered in person. Please visit our website and check the job opportunities and apply. If no opportunities are listed you can apply generally and your resume will be processed by an AI scanner. Please don't come in again except to buy something."

For real. Mom used to tell me "smile, work hard, and be nice" and everything will come together 🙄

AY MAN WHY YOU TRYING TO TREAT US LIKE BOOMERS PUTTING THE MEANING OF NGL AND SHIT!

Yes. It's called showing initiative. Something companies used to respect back in the day, you didn't need to hand in a dissertation on why you want the job, you just showed that you're willing to be the difference. Now it's a rat race, 95% of your resumes get binned

I saw ngl and saw that dudes face and just assumed ngl stood for something seriously racist so that was some heads up play clarifying the meaning like that

In the early/mid 2000s all you needed was one interview and got a verbal and offer letter same day.

Had an uncle who in the history lesson of how he worked for everything he had. Was given a store when the owner retired early. Was paid to be a guest teacher at a college with no degree. And was handed an oil rig ownership. Looked me dead in the eye like he didn’t get handouts.

Dude, I know this isn’t what this post it about but…. Bottled water didn’t exist. I can remember GETTING bottled water and being like WOW…. AMAZING…. This’ll never work.
