I remember there being a lot of publicity for this film when it came out. It was even nominated for the Oscar for Best Picture. But shortly after that, one hardly ever heard of it again.

In the name of historical justice! At the Tsar’s wedding, hundreds of people were trampled to death because of a rumor that the Tsar would be giving away free sweets.

They forgot to include the maid, valet and cook who were also m*rdered, along with the family and Dr. Botkin. Then again, a lot of actual people who were important to the family were omitted from this film (like Vyrubova).

I watched a film about this when I was a kid. ( perhaps this one ) but I was still too young to really understand and appreciate what happened. Now, today I can take comfort in knowing that the communists who did this are all in Hell, paying for what they did.

The book and this film started a lifelong fascination with Russia and the Romanovs.
