Nick Caley mentioned running the ball more multiple times today: “I gotta do a better job being disciplined to the run game.. in hindsight probably should’ve stuck more runs in there.” It’s clear what they want to do. Problem is we aren’t good enough to do it vs any... show more

#Texans are 28th in run success rate. They can’t run block In 2023 they put their best possible pass blockers on the line and gave the ball to CJ. He made magic happen The last 2 seasons they are committed to running the ball. The offense has been ass. They need to understand they are a pass first team but the HC wants to be a run first team. They don’t have the personnel. Watching them 2x on short yardage try to run behind Left side (weaker run block side) and fail is exactly the kind of things that happen when you refuse to play to your strengths. They need to protect CJ and throw the ball. They need to run to be a countermeasure to prevent teams from pinning their ears back but the pass sets up the run. Not the other way around The obstinance by this coaching staff and the HC particular is astounding and confusing It also makes you wonder how much Ryans’ desire to be a power run team while lacking the pieces to do so impacted Slowik and is impacting Caley.

Agreed!!

More quick game vs Seattle Wouldnt have worked Imo bc they are baiting that.

Yep all this talk about adapting and adjusting to your opponent and this goes against that

I feel like they had something using more motion. But just like last year I don’t think he trust them to handle the operation in time.

Also it just hit me, i heard him mention this being better on 1st and 2nd down. And I get why CJ keeps saying this “Death by a 1000 cuts” stuff. Bcuz it warrants you to be perfect at that time but the problem is what’s the alternative when it doesn’t work? 🥴

Ha yep. Pack it in is what happens drive over

nothing screams “let’s run the ball more” like a 2.06 YPC (not counting CJ’s 2 runs) against probably the best run defense in the NFL

against any run d that average to above average*

At least he’s taking accountability. Caserio has destroyed our offense and takes no accountability at all

yep

What scares me is we are letting a philosophy determine who we are. We are not a run team. We need to concentrate on the pass setting up the run and I think they are doing the opposite

Like running the same play on 3rd and 1 and 4th and 1? That's what he wants to do more of? I fucking hate this guy

Really makes me miss the Arian Foster days when running the ball was easy. Short and goal line was money.

The Texans do not understand their own personnel. They aren’t a O/line that can control the LOS. More mis direction to give their group of misfit toys a real chance to make better players hesitate and put them on equal footing. See Andy Reid running game.

For years I’ve listened to coaches say they have to run the ball more when they are clearly inept at it. It just boggles my mind. This just seems to be a lazy cliche for people in football.

With the technology that Nick Caley has at his disposal, he can clearly see that every man on the line is getting pushed back a yard or more on key running plays. Why did he not have everyone run that identical play the next time and have qb keep ball or throw surprise pass?

Blah, blah, blah...same ole song and dance. Nothing changes. Might as well put their weekly blasts on repeat...

I wish I could surprised but this guy is also the one (who after a bye) decided to give Berrios more snaps than Joel and also put the old guy back to return punts. Also reverted back to playing Dare and doing a rotation at LG. Just low IQ all around.

I didn’t see the quick game honestly. I watched more long developing routes, Stroud staring down receivers not going through his progressions, as well as scrambling backwards taking 20 yard sacks instead of stepping up in the pocket or taking rushing lanes for positive yards.

Yep

Blessan or Stressan?

@jonsymmank Big Stressan

With the talent they have, they are a pass first team. But they want to be a run first.

MORE RUNS?! Fire this guy

Overall issue of the team not adapting or adjusting and sticking to their plan for better or worse. It’s quite an embarrassment.

So we should’ve ran the ball more so we could go 3 & out quicker?? Why is our coaching staff so high on the run game that we don’t even really have!

All this It’s on me … BS Pay me to say that!!

This isn’t giving me any hope for the SF game or the season. “We just need to do more of what isn’t working.”

We’re just not a running team. And don’t have an o line for it. That being said woody marks literally is the only player who looks like he wants to win when he plays. I had such high hopes this season 😪 still time tho, but it’s running out FAST

Well he hit the nail on the head the run game is atrocious the D-2 Houston Football team run defense could blow them up

Yeah… like when he rushed on 3rd and short and then again on 4th and short and they lost yardage? Calling the same play? Should have called more rushes like that??

Caley looks like the dude from that one movie den of thieves. He needs to go back to robbing banks instead of robbing this offense

How you supposed to run the ball with no o-line?

This doesn’t inspire a ton of confidence. I think you gotta get the NE troop the fuck on out of Htown.

You had a bi week to prepare and you put crap out.

I cannot stand this guy anymore. He f’d the starting roster, ran predictable plays over and over, and his solution is run up the middle more. It almost never works. I legitimately think a random fan could call better plays and choose starters at this point.

this guy is no good.

Stressan for sure please get another OC asap

Worse run game in the league well he knows he is sitting in the inferno seat

Define insanity

We are NOT running team, CJ is not a running qb, let him air it out 30/40 times a game

Hope he gets arrested for gambling
