Nick Wright thinks the media is being hypocrites when it comes to Luka vs Wemby MVP debate 👀 “Him opening his MVP campaign by saying ‘my 3rd prong is there’s more to offense than scoring’ and everybody in the media being like ‘HE’S RIGHT YA KNOW! HAVE YOU HEARD... OF ROLL GRAVITY?’ Then he scores 40 in back to back games and everybody on the media is like ‘WHAT CAN’T THIS MAN DO’ — What I find hypocritical by folks covering the league is, they yatta yatta about Luka putting up 40 consistently for a month, and then going head over heels over Wemby doing it a couple games in a row in games where his team kind of went away from their identity of lockdown defense, because he’s gunning for a award” (Via What’s Wright? with Nick Wright)show more

Nick Wright says he don’t think Wemby was spooked by the moment, it’s something more concerning he’s exhausted: “Victor Wembanyama has been running on a quarter tank since the double overtime game. And that was 7 games ago. What that and this is the tax of and I’ve been banging this drum, I know I’m right. Him going 49 minutes when headed into these playoffs he had I think only gone above 40 twice in his career, and never above 43. All you got to do is look what his shot profile has look like since that game.” (Via What’s Wright? with Nick Wright)

Draymond Green on Victor Wembanyama campaigning for MVP: “You have to in today’s day in age. You can say Shai don’t have to say anything, Shai is the defending champ, he is the reigning MVP. And it’s Wemby task to go take it from Shai. And I know there’s been a lot of what I said about Wemby, and I know a lot of people are saying that I said Wemby should be the MVP. Number 1, I never said that. I actually think Shai is still the MVP and Wemby need a couple more spectacular games because you have to take it. You have to take it from the reigning MVP if he’s still at that level. And I don’t think he’s quite taking it yet. I agree with everything Wemby said but I think he need a couple more signature moments down the stretch as the voting rounds out, to take that MVP.” (Via The Draymond Green Show)

Nick Wright says round 2 is the CEILING for Giannis and the Heat: “Giannis went from a team in MIL where the absolute ceiling was round 1 of the playoffs, and now Giannis is on a team where the absolute ceiling is, round 2 of the playoffs…. Now he’s on another team that I fear is flatly not going to be good enough” I can’t wait for the Heat to prove Nick wrong. (Via What’s Wright? with Nick Wright)

Nick Wright thinks it’s interesting the media isn’t criticizing Wemby for campaigning his MVP case when they usually always do when a player talks that way about himself: “Most in the media hate stuff like that… Typically a 22 year old who’s never won anything explaining to everyone how he’s the best player and not why his team is the best, but why he is the best. Typically the media scolds that. Not with this guy who since he’s came in the league has been telling us how the spurs play basketball the right way. The is characteristics of Wemby’s overwhelming arrogance that most of the media tends to scold in athletes but with the 22 year old french kid, everybody applauds it” (Via The Dan Le Batard Show)

Nick Wright says Shai Gilgeous-Alexander just had the shortest tenure of best player alive in the history of any sport: “Most people thought it was Joker going into this postseason, right? And then Joker losses and it’s kind of like up for grabs. And then Wemby has his bad moment with the elbow. Shai gets announced as MVP then it felt like the moment, like he was handed the trophy. All right, he’s the 2 time MVP the defending champs, their huge favorites. Shai congratulations you’re the best player alive. It might have been like 15 minutes, bro. And by the end of the first quarter it’s like, nope it’s the other guy.” (Via What’s Wright? with Nick Wright)

Nick Wright says his criticism for Wemby was he didn’t want to anoint him, because the All-Time greats and true legends anoint themselves: “And that is what he did last night. He went into the building of the up to this point undefeated defending champs, watch their best guy win the award he wanted. And then said for these next 3 hours I’m going to make it absolutely unequivocally clear who the best goddamn basketball player walking the planet is, that’s what he did.” (Via What’s Wright? with Nick Wright)

.Chris Broussard sounds OFF on nick wright for putting Jalen Brunson over Wemby on King of the Hill 👑😅 “I get it, he had two back-to-back 12-point games. So what? He’s so good defensively that he can score 12 points and still have a phenomenal game.”

Nick Wright on what he thinks is the nightmare scenario for the 65-game rule: “So, that Wemby and Joker are not eligible. Luka doesn’t win his appeal. Cade and ANT are not eligible. And in that scenario you could argue that the six best seasons this year 5 of the 6 are not eligible, for anything. Expect By the way, you only have to play 58 games to be the statistically champ. So like, Luka if his appeal isn’t granted he’s going to win the scoring title and not be on the All-NBA team. And Joker if something was to happen to him tomorrow night and be knocked out of that game early and not play the next game would win the rebounds and assists championship and not be on the All-NBA team. So you would have the scoring, rebounding, assists champ Wemby going to be the blocks champ right? It’s just I don’t know it’s pretty ridiculous.” (Via What’s Wright? with Nick Wright)

Ok, I’ve had it. I feel like I’m living in bizarro world, and this is why the NBA MVP is now meaningless. Last night Luka Doncic became the first player in NBA history to put up a stat line of - 40+ Points, 10+ Assists, 5+ Rebounds, 5+ Threes, and 0 Turnovers So today the media ignores that, and an MVP voter (Chris Broussard) proclaims that Shai doesn’t have to campaign for the MVP award, because he is “cool”. However, Luka Doncic, because he isn’t “cool” dropped in ranking, by not begging for the award. The reason?? Because an activist MVP voter that writes for the NBA, moved Wembanyama to #1 on his list, after campaigning for the award. Not for his play, but because of an embarrassing speech he gave to the media. So we ignore the historic month that Luka Doncic just had to make the MVP race about THIS. By the way, what makes Shai so “cool” Chris Broussard that he’s exempt from your imaginary benchmark?? Is it because he’s a white European?? If that’s the case, at least have the guts to say it. They’re admitting right in front of your face that it doesn’t matter what Luka Doncic does on the court, they will find any dumb reason to not vote for him, then laugh about it on TV. The modern NBA has become an absolute joke 🔥🔥 (Via First Things First)

Nick Wright says the media bashing Bam’s 83 points is a MASSIVE indictment on how people view sports: “I thought the general reaction to a player with that cool of a story, that likable, un controversial as Bam Adebayo, scoring 83 god dog points in a NBA game, instantly being a debate about its validity, is a massive indictment on how we consume, discuss, and enjoy sports… EVERYBODY SHUT UP! Nick Wright makes the BEST case on why LeBron in Miami is the perfect fit: “The best option, and I really disagree with Simmons on this, is Miami. Miami is the only spot where if they make the finals, and be up against Joker, Wemby, SGA, Luka, he would not be being asked ‘hey man, you gotta match what that in his prime superstar is presenting.’ That would be Giannis’ job. As good as JB and Maxey are, it would fall on him. As good as Mitchell is, it would fall on him. In Miami that’d fall on Giannis. One of the 20 greatest players ever who has something to prove. Miami last year had the 13 offense and 13 defense. Adding Giannis and LeBron immediately gives them the opportunity to be a top 6 offense and defense… LeBron on this team with Wiggins, Mitchell, Adebayo, Giannis, be able to spend all of his energy on the offensive side of the ball.” (Via What’s Wright? with Nick Wright)

Draymond Green on the SGA vs Wemby MVP race: “I found it interesting that when Wemby spoke out, on he jumped to number 1 on the MVP ladder. Power of media. Fortunately and unfortunately, SGA has still been doing what he’s doing. You have to do something to take the MVP from him. I just don’t really think it’s been taken. Nick Wright says everything about Wemby feels tenuous and a little scary, it’s why he’s so special: “The flip side of the coin of we’ve never seen a guy be able to tip dunk his own missed three, we’ve never seen a guy be able to protect the paint while guarding the three point line. Is what goes along with having a body that size is just more times your going to say I’ve never seen it. Normally it’s amazing and then the other night it was, I’ve never seen a NBA player fall quite like that and this sounds like a ridiculous thing to say, I don’t know the actual math on this, but just visual because I’ve seen guys fall like that and I’ve seen guys fall like that and hit their face on the ground it felt to me because of the extra length of torso almost that by the time his head hit the ground it was just going a little bit faster it gained more velocity. And it wasn’t lost on me that the highlight of game one, the on where they showed Duncan and Robinson going like “ Oh my God” was when Wemby took the ball at half court did the spin move in the paint and then dunked. That was almost exact same thing he was trying to do on this play. And like when, it’s the size plus the style. He’s not just planting himself in the paint, like he’s out there moving. And it is the elephant in the room on any of the, how many MVPs? How many championships? It’s like, man. How nervous are you going to be every time this giant of a man falls.” (Via What’s Wright? with Nick Wright)
