Nicolas Cage shared the other day that Christopher Nolan offered him a role in Nolan’s 2002 thriller Insomnia, which Cage turned down. Per Cage, Nolan never reached out to him again to work together. That said, a Nolan-Cage film might be exactly what the world needs right now.

Nicolas Cage says Christopher Nolan, Woody Allen, and Paul Thomas Anderson all stopped calling him after he turned down their movies but David O. Russell was the one director who actually came back and offered him another film. “David O. Russell is someone that offered me a movie a million years ago. I think it was… I don’t remember the name of the movie, but anyway, it was a good movie, and he offered it, and I said no.” “And he’s the only director that I ever said no to who actually came back and offered me another movie.” “Most of them, they get their feelings hurt or something and don’t call you back. This happened a million times to me.” “And it’s happened with Christopher Nolan. It’s happened with Woody Allen. It’s happened with Paul Thomas Anderson.” “They don’t call me back. And my schedule…” Q: “What movie did Christopher Nolan and Paul Thomas Anderson offer you?” Nicolas Cage: “The Paul Thomas Anderson movie was a very early movie. He showed me a short film, which was very good, with Philip Seymour Hall, and we were going to do something and it didn’t work out.” “But anyway, David did call me back, and I thought that that was really… It showed a lot of class that he would call me back and invite me again.” “And I didn’t want to say no to him again because I do have great respect for his talent.”

In Vampire's Kiss (1988), Nicolas Cage ate 3 real cockroaches on camera instead of the raw egg in the script to "shock the audience." Director Robert Bierman made him do a 2nd take as a prank. Cage said, “I'll never do that again” adding he's still “somewhat traumatized by it.”

I really believe Christopher Nolan is going to win the Oscar for Best Director & Best Picture in back-to-back films. For Nolan to give us The Odyssey in the wake of Oppenheimer is beyond words. I just can’t believe it. That said, Nolan will have to overcome Dune 3, which might not be possible. But I put Nolan in the driver’s seat right now.

Christopher Nolan Explains Why He Doesn’t Use CGI and Shoots on IMAX Robert Downey Jr.: Why Christopher Nolan doesn’t use CGI. Christopher Nolan: I find CGI, however versatile it is, but it always tends to feel a little safe to me. Christopher Nolan: I think if you want something to have a bit of bite, you’ve got the imagery to a better threat, even if it’s a miniature, even if it’s something very fake, but something real on camera. Christopher Nolan: I think it gives you a better result. Robert Downey Jr.: Why does Christopher Nolan shoot on film? Christopher Nolan: I shoot on film because it’s the highest quality imaging format ever devised, particularly IMAX film, large-format film. Christopher Nolan: Film shows you the world kind of the way your eye sees it. Robert Downey Jr.: Where does Christopher Nolan get his ideas? Christopher Nolan: All over the place. Different on every film. Christopher Nolan: Oppenheimer, I’d been interested in a long time, didn’t know that much about the specifics of his story, then came to the book American Prometheus, and that absolutely got me hooked. Christopher Nolan: So, in the case of Oppenheimer, the idea… I trace it right back to, like, as a kid in the eighties, and we all thought we were gonna die in nuclear Armageddon. Robert Downey Jr.: Absolutely. Me too.

Insomnia didn’t make my Christopher Nolan 10 Best Films list. But that speaks to how great Nolan’s filmography is - it’s not a slight against Insomnia, which is a damn good movie & a quality Al Pacino performance. This has to be considered one of Pacino’s best films in the last 30 years. Robin Williams is also outstanding playing against-type as the bad guy here. The point I’m getting at? Christopher Nolan’s never made a bad film.

47 Days out from Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, a reminder that people should calm down over Nolan’s casting of TRAVIS SCOTT in his upcoming film. Nolan’s known to cast musicians in movies- it’s part of his process, whether it be David Bowie or Harry Styles. It’s a Nolan trademark.

Nicolas Cage was such a huge Ghost Rider fan that when he heard the filmmakers were considering Johnny Depp for Ghost Rider (2007), he lobbied for the role himself. Ironically, Cage already had a Ghost Rider tattoo, which the production had to cover with makeup every day.

The Dark Knight Rises is unquestionably one of Christopher Nolan’s weaker films but what does that even mean? Does it even matter? Christopher Nolan has never made a bad film in his life, and that includes The Dark Knight Rises, which, despite being one of his weaker films, is still a damn good movie. The bottom line is that even in his “low” moments, Nolan still strikes with precision.

Nicolas Cage crushed it in Spider-Noir (🌟🌟🌟🌟) & it’s sent me down a massive Cage rabbit hole, which includes his Oscar win for Leaving Las Vegas. Cage perfectly captures the pain & suffering an alcoholic goes through. This film elevated Cage’s status to another level.

Christopher Nolan gave a massive, massive shoutout to Guillermo del Toro as a major inspiration for how Nolan brought various creatures in The Odyssey to life. In an interview with Los Angeles Times , Nolan shared that Del Toro taught him to approach monsters the way you approach any other character & to make use of human-made practical effects rather than relying just on CGI. It’s a tremendous interview & Nolan is really candid- I strongly recommend the full interview.
