I used to love looking into the vast dark ocean at night when on deployment. It’s super dark on a cruise like this because they keep the lights on. But on a carrier? Mannnn. You can see the entire night sky reflecting off the surface. If I miss anything about deployment, it’s that.

I was in the Navy in the '80s. We had these flight vest. If you fell overboard, you would wait until they circled around to get you and then you would pull on this lever. This would release a yellow dye so they could locate you. The problem is that the dye attracted sharks.

Been on a few ships as a kid and I remember taking walks around the deck after dinner and the moon shining so bright honestly some of the brightest nights I’ve seen
