The hardest of decisions has been made. Tomorrow afternoon, our vet, who has been with us every step of this journey, will come to our home and help Ralph cross. Despite eating copious amounts of food, he lost 500kg in 3 weeks, down from 3kg to 2.5kg. His temperature is too low as he is too weak to regulate his body and he is showing signs of muscle weakness. Although no indicator for pain (we checked, twice), he is literally withering away and prolonging this will be completely and utterly for us, not for him and you all know by now, we would never, ever do that to our kids. He is home, on top of our warm bed and he will be so spoiled the next 24 hours. He will be hugged so much and will be told we love him until the moment he slips away in our arms Simon and I are devastated this is happening a 3rd time this year and this has been my fear for many, many years. Thank you all for being there for us and keep Ralph in your thoughts tomorrow as he starts his journey over the rainbow bridge.

A hard rescue today as I got a message from a kind local lady who needed help with an old blind dog. The poor boy was most likely dumped in the area because the “end was close for him”. He was confused on the beach and stuck. He wouldn’t have lasted much longer were it not for their bravery. His vet results were about as bad as it gets. His eyes might be glaucoma as he can’t see a thing and his kidneys and liver are bad as well as severe anemia. His anemia is so bad we can’t even put him on a drip. While I was driving him around I just had to keep talking to him as his head would keep dropping. His body is so weak. He is also very hard to handle as he lashes out with bites as he can’t see what is going on around him. He is terrified. The ladies called him Rocky as they are hoping he will make a comeback. It won’t be easy at all but he did start eating, drinking and resting well this evening. We will all have to keep everything crossed for this lovely boy. Whatever happens he isn’t on his own and he has the best medical care now. Rocky even let me pet his head tonight. I think he understands he is safe.

Almost five years ago, one of our bright beneficiaries, David, lost his mother after she travelled to the Upper East Region to seek medical treatment. He became an orphan. In the midst of that tragedy, he left Accra and disappeared from our scholarship programme. We did everything we could to bring him back. We had even identified a loving family that was ready to take him in so he could continue his education through our Student Training and Education Programme (STEP), but his family was not ready to let him return. We never gave up. In 2024, we heard that David had returned to Accra, so we travelled to Kasoa to look for him. We were relieved to find him, but his family was not forthcoming, making it difficult for us to stay in touch. Sadly, by the time we returned, he had been taken back to the Upper East Region. Then, just recently, we received the phone call we had been praying for. One of David’s cousins had brought him back after learning that he was being mistreated. At just 13 years old, David had been out of school for years and was being made to work on farms instead. Today, David is finally back. He may be behind in school, but he is not behind in potential. We are determined to help him catch up, heal, and build the future he deserves. As we prepare to support David’s return to school, he will need school fees, uniforms, books, stationery, personal items, counselling, and the care every child deserves to thrive. This neighborhood has an older German Shepherd who was known to roam the neighborhood. He disappeared for awhile until he showed up at this man’s house. “You came back, where were you?" Probably the first time he felt like someone cared. He had a bad open wound on him. This man took him in, fed him, sheltered him, and took him to the vet who cared for his wound. He even posted pictures of him on social media trying to find his owner. No luck. So, he kept him and has given him care, shelter and a fighting chance and most importantly, a love. ❤️ You are a hero sir. Thank for giving him a home. Would you take a stray dog in like this if he showed up at your house ? I would!

Sharing for Kingston. To save his life. “Kingston means "king's town" ... but his reality couldn't be further from that. Instead of a kingdom, he has a kennel. Instead of a family, he has people who walk past him. Every single day. Kingston is only one year old. Just a baby. And he is the sweetest boy. Gentle, loving, playful, and so full of love to give. He is dog friendly, amazing with kids, and everything about him says "perfect family dog." Right now, Kingston is on the urgent list. And somehow... not one person has ever stopped to meet him. Not one person has ever asked to take Kingston out of his kennel. They walk by while he spins, jumps, and moves nonstop. They see chaos. They don't see stress. They don't see fear. They don't see a young dog losing his mind in an overwhelming environment. This is not excitement. This is kennel stress. This is what happens when a loving, energetic dog is trapped behind bars with nowhere to go and no one to turn to. If someone would just stop. If someone would just ask to meet him. They would see the real Kingston. Take him outside and he softens. A sweet, gentle, playful boy who loves fetch and proudly brings the ball back, dropping it right at your feet every time. Ricky is proud of himself for staying true to who he is and never feeling the need to change just to fit in or please anyone. He knows himself. This painting shows the most heartbreaking reunion in all of literature. To understand it, you have to know who the dog is... His name is Argos, and he belongs to Ulysses, the Greek hero also known as Odysseus. Before Ulysses sailed away to fight in the Trojan War, he had raised Argos from a puppy, a fast and beautiful hunting dog. Then the war called, and Ulysses left. He would not come home for twenty years. When Ulysses finally set foot on his own island again, he came in disguise, dressed as a beggar, so that no one would know him. His house was full of men trying to steal his wife and his kingdom. To survive, he had to remain a stranger in his own home. No one recognized him. Not his loyal servants. Not the people who had known him all his life. But lying in the dirt by the gate, old and forgotten, covered in ticks, too weak to stand, was a dog. Argos had waited twenty years. And the moment he saw him, he knew. He was the only one. Nearly blind, half dead, he lifted his head and pricked up his ears, and he wagged his tail for the master he had never stopped waiting for. Ulysses saw him. And because he was in disguise, surrounded by enemies, he could not run to him, could not kneel down, could not say his name. He could only look at his old friend and, turning his face away so no one would see, let a single tear fall. And then, in Homer's own words, "the dark shadow of death closed down on Argos' eyes, the instant he had seen Odysseus, twenty years away." He had held on to life for one reason only: he was waiting to see him come home. And the moment he did, he could finally let go... We have shared the struggles of Ibrahim who is living with pemphigus vulgaris, a chronic autoimmune disease that causes painful blisters and open sores across his skin. Every movement is a battle with pain. In Gaza, the treatment he needs is extremely limited. If Ibrahim is not hospitalized, he cannot receive the medication that keeps his condition from flaring up out of control. He wants to be in his tent, with his children, receiving care from his family. And what he really wants and what he really needs urgently is treatment abroad. Until that becomes possible, The Sameer Project will support him with medication to aid him with his daily battle. On March 4 we provided Ibrahim with a week’s worth of medication and ointments and a hygiene kit for a total of $182 after commission. This is one of the most expensive medical cases we have taken on since he will need the treatment weekly, and we cannot do it alone.
