N-NANOMASTER ⚔️⚔️⚔️ A compact temporal mastering solution for electronic music designed to encourage and promote better mixdowns🫡

You may have heard the term "Reverse master", which we all probably ended up using at some point. A master-chain dependent mixdown generally encourages unpredictable mixing decisions. This hurts your mixdown skills in the longrun.

While some people advocate to have absolutely nothing on the master, there are some essentials that can still be applied without causing the reverse-master effect. The SOFT CLIP macro in this case is a smart soft clipper threshold that starts beyond 0db with its lowest at 0db.

at 100% SOFT CLIP, the limiter after it is essentially bypassed, but will still end up sounding smoother than a purely digitally clipped master, as soft clipping reduces digital clipping artifacts DRASTICALLY.

Generally you want to use Soft clipping in full frequency range sections of your song (aka the chorus or drop) and the limiter on softer more delicate/sensitive parts in order to avoid inharmonic distortion! :)

If you throw this rack on your master and your intro with soft clip at 0% or your drop with soft clip at 100% sounds significantly worse, you may want to take a second look at your mix and fix the problem there! That's how you improve at mixing🫡

This is labelled a temporary solution as it's supposed to primarily accompany you during the mixing stage. Once you're happy with your mix, you can swap the rack for your own mastering tools. Your mix will be easier to master and you might just end up keeping this rack on!

By "reverse mastering" you're essentially referring to top-down mixing? Would you recommend starting out a mix with this rack on? Or, micro mixing first, then apply this to investigate problematic mixing decisions?

basically yea! you could have the soft clip all the way at 100 if youre working on say the drop and 0-50 for the intro break and make sure the mixdown is always problem-free :)
