“No Christian with half a brain would say, ‘We support religious freedom.’ We support the truth!”

This sounds like Christian Nationalism.

We support religious liberty, not religious pluralism. I know this is difficult for some to understand but the Founders were not religious pluralists from the 1990s with Coexist bumper stickers on the back of their Prius. Religious Liberty was about Christians (97% Protestant at the founding of America in 1776) being free to worship without state interference from the likes of Anglicans or Catholics. Most every state Constitution has a Christian declaration of faith. Stuff we were never taught in seminary. We are for historic religious liberty that is ordered, limited in scope and application, and according to the traditions well established at Americas founding. Church bells 🔔 can and should ring and Sharia law, paganism, even Satanism is actually unconstitutional.

Huh. Well seeing as how we live in AMERICA… maybe go live on an island if you don’t like religious freedom….

What a weird statement to release on July 3rd.

WOW. This must be MacArthur's greatest doctrinal blunder! Religious Freedom is the very Bedrock of the Christian Faith and what separates us from False religions like Islam which extend and maintain itself by the sword. MacArthur is completely wrong on this one. *God allows Religious Freedom... even though it means some people will go to Hell*. It's not our place to *impose* our beliefs on others, but to use *our religious freedom* to preach the gospel to them... that they might *voluntarily receive it*. And Paul our Apostle tells us in Roman's... that "If it be possible... as much as lieth in you... live peaceably with all men." And it is what separates Our Faith in God's Grace from that of The Old Testament Law. Our Salvation does not require *works*. WE do good works *freely* because we love God and our fellow man. We stand fast in the Liberty of Christ. The Jew under the Old testament covenants not only had to have faith, but was to strictly keep the Law... this was not optional. I have written an article on this subjects.... link below. The Christian Fellowship is a voluntary private society, not a theocratic political movement.

One of John's very few L's. Very few.

John was wrong a lot. This is one of those times where John was wrong

Of course. However, religious freedom offer the vehicle that allows us to proclaim the truth and not die for it. Thus, the gospel can flourish.

This is wrong. Jesus came to set us free. In His day the Pharisees were the religious Stazi. The battle for human hearts relies on an even playing field, not a stacked deck, as with Islam. May the best faith (Jesus) win our hearts and minds. Look at Turkey . It has a secular constitution but allows no religious freedom in reality. No country is free if a designated religion is the only one tolerated. Look at Iran. The Ayatollahs stole the freedom of Iranians, and they are now captives in their own land. Jesus came to set us free... from tyranny .

Religious devotees of liberalism with superficial Christian characteristics: "Religious freedom distinguishes Christianity from other religions...We must allow religions whose adherents would kill Christians be on equal footing with Christianity." The contradiction in their views errors on the side of liberalism, which shows their true faith.

Exactly. The late great Dr. @johnmacarthur the greatest man of God (YHWH) in 100-years. I have soaked up every sermon of Johnny Mac’s, he has shaped my Doctrinal and Theological understanding of just who are wonderful God is. 🤲🏽⛰️🔥❤️✝️🦁🇺🇸🇮🇱🌎

I always chuckle that it was Johnny Mac who one shotted my brain on the issue of religious freedom! I remember watching this sermon and thinking about this for legit hours and concluding that he was right and I had been brainwashed.

@Ezra_Institute and @ostrachan hardest hit

Damn that dude is scary. How did he get such a big following?

We are not obligated to worship your version of god. Religious freedom is the bedrock of this nation.

Hyperbole (few will 👂 context) WE cannot own Truth, only proclaim it. Christ Jesus is Lord - the One Way, the whole Truth and only eternal Life with Almighty God !

Religious freedom is about ensuring the State doesn't meddle in the Church's work. Have you noticed that European countries with state religions (England, Iceland, etc.) are religiously liberal? Those sympathetic to Christian Nationalists are playing into the hands of Evil.

Hmm I guess the founding fathers weren’t Christian then and America was never a Christian nation

John was a tyrant who lied frequently and publicly.

Tolerance is not a virtue. Discernment is.

Solid Christian Nationalism stance.

louder pls

Falsa dicotomía

The Truth condemns the sin of partiality, as well as sodomy unions. Yet Mac said it wasn't a sin for a Xian baker to make a cake for a gay "wedding" & then misapplied the Good Samaritan parable to it. The Truth condemns welcoming a false teacher yet he welcomed Piper repeatedly.

Half a brain? True worship and love for God must flow freely from the heart — never by the sword or the state. God Himself sets the example: ‘Choose you this day whom ye will serve’ (Joshua 24:15). He could force every knee to bow, yet He woos us with love so that our response is genuine: ‘We love Him, because He first loved us’ (1 John 4:19). Even the cheerful giver principle applies here — ‘not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver’ (2 Corinthians 9:7). Forcing ‘Christianity’ at the point of a sword (or law) produces hypocrites, not disciples. It puts faith in man’s control instead of God’s sovereignty. The Holy Spirit leads His people into all truth (John 16:13) — not kings, governments, or inquisitions. History shows forced religion cuts off heads or burns dissenters; Scripture shows God honors the free choice of the heart. Let us trust the Lord to draw whom He will, while we preach the Gospel and live as lights. Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty (2 Corinthians 3:17).

John MacArthur was wrong about every goddamn thing

God wants us to choose him freely, not coerced; out of love, not because of force.

The best thing about religious freedom is that it allows each religion to compete on its own merits and the best one wins over the long term.

What it comes down to is what you mean by that. If you're talking about state policy, Baptists (like MacArthur) have historically supported religious freedom over a state establishment.

I never thought of it that way. But it’s ABSOLUTELY CORRECT !

Which Truth - Do good, sit down, pray, sing, pay us your money and wait for your reward after you die? God is not the God of the dead, but of the living - Matthew 22:32

Supporting religious freedom does not mean affirming every religion as true. It means recognizing that God permits human beings to choose whether to follow Him, and a civil society can likewise protect that freedom without declaring all religions equally valid.
