And someone dares to call the study of history “useless”

This is a long-standing issue we’ve questioned since childhood. Now that the youth make up a large portion of the population, what are we doing differently to change the narrative? It’s time for young people across Africa to form political parties and drive change. We can’t keep relying on the same old politicians.

You are right. The first awakening is individual, and the first true battle is of the mind. But a troubling truth remains: some who are awake choose to pretend to be asleep. They see the chains but call them jewelry. They recognize the manipulation but perform the script. They know the history but recite the lie.

Biafra’s longevity in the civil war wasn’t accidental. Ojukwu had France backing him with arms and food. They’d even negotiated the sale of the SE oil deposits with Elf. Shell BP wasn’t having it!!! Power, oil, politics. Nigeria works, West Africa works, Africa works.

Your point underscores the central, painful truth: the continent’s internal conflicts have rarely been just internal. External powers have often fueled divisions, seeing our lands as a chessboard and our resources as the prize. Whether in Biafra or beyond, the enduring lesson isn’t about which foreign power backed whom. It’s about the perpetual cost of external interference and the urgent need for true African agency. When our unity is compromised, the only real victors are those who profit from our fragmentation. The goal must be a continent where "Africa works" not just in spite of external plots, but because we have built institutions, alliances, and an unshakeable will powerful enough to render such interference obsolete. The path forward is sovereignty, in policy, economy, and collective security.

As Africans we need to take interest in reading and writing about our past, and exploring and understanding the sources of our divisions to better understand how to protect our interests and make progress. We can not, 60 yrs post independence, continue crying about colonialism

Everybody knows this, but we still stupidly run to them for solutions to the problems they made sure we have.

Did European influence also advise Nigerian state to discriminate and apply marginalisation against the Eastern people? Did they start the Killing of Igbos in the North that made their Leader to ask them to come back and subsequently declared independent state?

This is rubbish. Excuses, Conspiracy theories will never help Africa. China was also colonised. SunSahara Africa should study China. No other way. Politics and more Politics will only make things worse. Unfortunate that Shehu Shagari didn't know the problem with Black Africa, leave alone Nigeria. Therefore he wouldn't know the solution. First system to drop immediately is Democracy. Africa has tried it since the early 1990s and the situation is getting worse every year. The quality of leadership from a Democratic process is below average. Low IQ. Chinese system is best. No Elections, no Parliament. Only selection and appointment and promotion based on performance. Second, Education should produce less of Generalists and more of STEM. Less Political Scientists, Lawyers, Economists and more Engineers, Technicians, Doctors, Agriculturalists etc Those who work with their hands. Third: Africa should control it's population. It should be strictly 1 Woman 1 Child. And discourage early school dropouts from producing 4 to 20 children. African Middle-class is too small to support an unproductive population or a population without potential. This is a frank reality. Nigeria, Ghana have Oil. Tanzania have Gold. But who is mining?? African Countries only get 3-5% Royalties. You only benefit if you are doing the mining yourself.

Nigeria cannot blame anyone but herself. She dicided to go to war to subdue Biafra instead of dialogue. Yes, you won the war but did you win the much needed peace and deserved development? The answer is no. The problem of Nigeria is self inflicted please do not blame the west.
