There have always been moments in history when the unthinkable or the unspeakable have occurred. I have taken the liberty of adapting the now famous words of Pastor Martin Niemöller First they came for the black people And I did not speak out Because I was not black. Then they came for the Mexicans And I did not speak out Because I was not a Mexican. Then they came for the Muslims And I did not speak out Because I was not a Muslim Then they aided and abetted Israel to murder Palestinian women and children And I did not speak out Because I was not a Palestinian Then they came for the LGBTQ + community And I did not speak out Because I was not a member of that community. Today on MSNBC’s #MorningJoe, I said what is clear: you cannot whitewash slavery. To suggest there was a “good side” to slavery is not only offensive, it is a lie. Families were broken apart, people dehumanized, names stripped, and labor stolen with no pay. I know this history personally as my great-grandfather was a slave in Edgefield, South Carolina. I am literally named after the man who enslaved him. You cannot erase that, nor should we try. America must be honest about its history. Just as we have a Holocaust museum, we must tell the truth about slavery and the struggle for freedom that followed. Anything less dishonors our ancestors and misleads our children.

SUB 3 HOUR HALF MARATHON!!! Sweat, blood and wanting to give up but after 2:59:31 hours we did it! The worry about time and pushing myself to the maximum speed I could for hours upon end made this a very rough afternoon but we do it for mental health, for those that suffer and for those who we’ve lost to this battle! To finish the race in the exact same spot hugging my grandma again was such a beautiful way to finish off the day. Its moments like that which make you realise life is worth living. Time to rest for a few days, then back onto the grind. The 6 marathons in 6 continents is coming up quite quick 😅
