Is Kaberi not your Bhagin? #JusticeforDrKaberiKurmi Day 12 in Jail. @himantabiswa Mama, we only seek a fair, impartial and evidence-based investigation. Please look into the case of Dr. Kaberi Kurmi, Medical Officer, District Jail, Golaghat - the only doctor posted there. She is accused in connection with an incident involving an undertrial prisoner who later fled from SKK Civil Hospital. Dr. Kaberi had referred him to the Civil Hospital for further medical evaluation. The prisoner had visited/reported to her on multiple occasions during his period in jail. Over the course of three years, he was referred 11 times for medical care — 10 times to SKK Civil Hospital and once to Jorhat Medical College. Dr. Kaberi made 8 of those referrals. Importantly, Dr. Kaberi had no authority to decide whether the patient would be admitted to the receiving hospital. Admission and further treatment were matters for the receiving hospital and its treating medical team. She maintains that she never accepted any bribe and had no communication with the prisoner's associates or the treating doctor at SKK Civil Hospital. If these facts are borne out by the official records, the circumstances deserve an objective examination rather than assumptions. Why should a government doctor face incarceration for performing her official medical duty?
