No matter how much disinformation and hate the right-wing radicals spread against Gurdwaras, the Hindu community regularly visits Gurdwaras without any fear, and their religious symbols/attire are well respected. The only request the Sikh community is making is not to treat Gurdwaras as picnic or tourist spots, and to...

Pro-Khalistani figure Mr. Gurpatwant Singh Pannu (aka American Neetu Shattan Wala) has once again issued a disturbing threat. This time, he has targeted the Government of India, Prime Minister Modi, and consulate officials, warning them to stay away from consular camps organized in Gurdwaras and Mandirs for issuing life certificates. In his characteristic hyperbole, he labeled these camps as “Death Camps,” alleging that the real aim is to collect personal information on the community. Mr. Pannu must be reminded that these consular camps have been a long-standing tradition, hosted in temples and Gurdwaras on the request by local management committees. They provide vital services like Life Certificate for pension for applicants with Indian and non-Indian passports especially to seniors of Indian descent, who rely on these camps to complete necessary paperwork without the burden of traveling to consulates in downtown Vancouver or Toronto. It’s also worth noting that most beneficiaries of such services, including at the Hindu Sabha Mandir in Brampton, have been Sikh members of the diaspora—ironically, the very community Pannu claims to represent. Yet, these same camps were attacked by Khalistani elements while Sikh families were present inside, peacefully accessing consular services. The mainstream Sikh community, Gurdwara management committees, and civil society cannot remain silent in the face of these divisive and dangerous actions. I urge those who have benefited from these consular services, especially senior citizens, to speak out and highlight the positive role these camps have played in their lives. The reality is that these camps are essential for our community’s well-being, and the violent rhetoric surrounding them must be rejected. I commend the Khalsa Diwan Society Gurdwara, Vancouver, for their strong condemnation of such threats and for calling on the Sikh community to register maximum votes in the upcoming Gurdwara elections. It is crucial that moderate voices prevail to prevent Gurdwaras from falling into the hands of radicals, ensuring these places of worship remain safe, inclusive spaces for all. Radical elements like Mr. Pannu do not represent the Sikh faith or values. Instead, they thrive on fearmongering and misinformation. It is time for the wider community to take a stand and ensure that peace, harmony, and responsible leadership prevail. #RejectExtremism #HinduSikhUnity #ProtectOurCommunity #SayNoToViolence #SupportModerateVoices #SikhValuesMatter #PeaceAndHarmony #StopRadicalism Sat Sri Akal Sukhi Chahal, USA
