No microphone, no auto-tune, no effects, just Chris Martin's voice

He can sing but I guarantee he was wearing a lavalier microphone at a minimum.

As a sound engineer of over 40 years, mainly live work. I can tell you 100% that's pre-recorded. Mimed to play back etc. Pretty standard stuff to be fair.

That's 100% playback. It's really crazy to me how regular people can't differentiate the sound from a lavalier from a condenser mic. His voice would only sound like that with a microphone at 2 centimeters of his mouth.

No auto tune, but everything else you mentioned is present. With no mic, his voice wouldn't get picked up this loud. There is compression, EQ and slight reverb as well, which are effects. Likely has an ear piece as well.

I hate it when people who post stuff don't know Wtf they talking about. No mic, no effects? So the amplified vocals is coming out tru your ass? And how do you know 'no autotune'? In future just post and say enjoy.

Just making you aware that live auto-tune is a thing and it can be subtle enough that it’s barely noticeable. Not saying he has it on, but nowadays it’s not super easy to tell. Also he could have reverb on, it’d be a decent mixing decision

I do not think that people truly know what auto tune is when they talk about it. Basically it is a more sophisticated version of the days of old reverb, echoing chamber, etc. it can do pitch shifting etc. but ALL recording artist use microphone effects to enhance and amplify the sound coming from the mic. Anita bakers was reverb III. famously.

The fact of no microphone should have been the tell. He was lip-synching to a pre-recorded vocal track. Really obvious to my ear.
