No. None of these are cheating: - 3D models (figures or items) - Custom brushes - Pre-made images (that you have permission) - Pre-made images (that you made) - Pre-made screentones - Reusing older panels/art All of these tools are available, and I use them. +

IDK if you all knew I use these techniques, so I wanted to be open about this. I think it's important to share this with y'all. There's this stupid thought among artists that using 3D models means you are "weaker" or "fake". Using 3D models is not as easy as it looks. Why? +

It's easy to make stiff artwork if you over-rely on them. I use models the same way I use a sketch. A rough guide for a general idea of the pose, not something I stick to 100%. By the time I START drawing, I have worked a full day. I'll work smarter, not harder. Deal with it. +

Even PRO mangaka use models and assets like @14MOUNTAIN discusses in this documentary. Please watch it and educate yourself:

Welp this is starting to leave my circle. Thanks for the love y'all. If you want to read the manga I worked on in the video, it's called Godsbane. You can find it here for free on GlobalComix. New chapter next week!

i appreciate when artists can draw form and pose characters, but i also understand deadlines and conveyance, so 3d models are cool as long as its not a crutch im not complaining

100% this. I know how to do all of these things on paper. I spent 6 years learning art. I choose to work smarter now. I also have a bad elbow AND wrist with a pinched nerve + ulnar tunnel and it helps prevent me from overexerting myself. I don't use models all the time, either.

Actually, this last year I went from using posing figures the 3-D models just to cut down on the sketching time for characters. Since my wrist has gotten a little bit worse, anything that helps cut down on the amount of sketching is a huge help.

Same! I fought using them for a long time. Now that my drawing arm has a bad nerve in my elbow, it really helps cut down on the workload and time drawing. Saves so much effort

PREACH! Creating comics, webtoons, or any kind of art is HELLA time consuming!!! You still have to use your anatomy and various other art skills to utilize this anyways! 🤩

Exactly! Using 3D models won't magically give you any knowledge you didn't have. It's easy to see who over-relies on them if you are experienced enough to spot it.
