AI providers offering foundational AI services, should be treated more like public utilities than commercial data intermediaries. Just as electricity providers cannot commercialize the activities powered by their grids, AI infrastructure providers should not be able to commercialize data that is not theirs. Their role is to provide secure, reliable compute and intelligence, not to monetize customer information. The value created from a user's data should belong to the user, not the infrastructure provider.
