(Very long post) Thoughts on Marvel Rivals release day Tldr; Rivals is fucking awesome. 1. Six and a half hours of playtime and I had ONE game server fail to load. No game crashes, no server overloads, no queue times, and one single solitary FPS drop. 2. The monetization is the most consumer-friendly system I’ve seen from a game in a very, VERY long time. A $5 battlepass that you can continue to redeem rewards from even after the end of the season? A 1:1 exchange rate of base to premium currency? No character/map paywalls? That’s absolutely WILD to me. 3. I can’t remember the last time I’ve had trouble getting off of my PC because I find myself saying, “just one more game” over and over again. Actually, yes I can - it was the alpha and beta tests. I cannot get enough of this game. 4. Every character has such a fun learning curve, I’ve never been a DPS main in any game. Ever. But I find myself freely swapping between DPS and support because the mechanics are just so damn clean and everything is fluid; I’ve yet to play a character I didn’t love. Movement is incredibly fun, especially in third person. Which brings me to: 5. I have always hated third person games, especially shooters. I don’t know what it is, but something about the way Rivals implemented it works insanely well. Corner peeking adds so much versatility your play style and I’m absolutely loving it. 6. TEAM PLAY AND SYNERGY IS ENCOURAGED!! That right there is EXACTLY what Overwatch has been missing. We lost so much of that when we did away with double tanks and the game went from a team based FPS to a tank v tank boss raid. Rivals has gone the opposite direction by implementing team-ups that will change every season to keep metas fresh. 7. TTK feels GREAT and I actually have a big impact in every team fight. That kind of player agency is something that’s also been missing from Overwatch for a long time. 8. Nerf Iron Fist.

Godfather of neuroscience and author of The free energy principle (active inference), Karl Friston Karl Friston News , discussed with me his take on AGI, consciousness, why we will never fully understand the brain, and why humans tend to repeat their mistakes. Key moments: - You'll know AGI has arrived when the system starts asking you questions out of genuine curiosity, not because it was prompted to - You cannot hand an intelligent system a value function from the outside, it must learn its own, just as children do (in that sense, RL with assigned reward is the wrong direction) - The only sustainable universal objective function is adaptive fitness: how well the agent fits and survives within its ecosystem - Consciousness requires multiple layers: genuine agency, a self-reflective loop, and the ability to recognize your own states of mind - True sentience may be impossible on standard computer architecture, because memory and processing are separate and cannot self-organize - Understanding your own brain is philosophically impossible in the same way a ruler cannot measure itself - Neuroscience is always "peeking behind" the Markov blanket indirectly: through imaging, electrophysiology, psychology — never seeing inside directly - The only way to truly access the brain is to breach that boundary (e.g. neurosurgery), but a breached brain is no longer a normally functioning one Watch the full interview and let me know what you think. Rulership: Phew... Time to take a breather. Oh, right... Trainer isn't logged in. Rulership: What's the deal, working again? Even though it's their trainee's rest day... Rulership: Let me see... 'Are you free right now?' ...Nah, that makes me look like the bored one. 'What are you doing?' ...Hmm, wouldn't they just ask 'Why?' Rulership: ...Wait, what should I even send...? ------FEW IMBECILLE THINKING LATER----- Rulership peeking at trainer's room: (...Yep, definitely seems busy with work. Ughhh... what do I do... Knock on the door? Nah, that's...) -------INSIDE THE TRAINER'S ROOM------- That afternoon, I was plowing through a mountain of backed-up paperwork. Precisely because it was Rulership's day off, I wanted to get everything cleared away. Trainer: Alright! That's a good stopping point! I figured I'd grab a coffee and take a short break. But as soon as I stepped out into the hallway— Rulership: Whoa! T-Trainer!? Rulership was standing right outside the door. Had she just arrived at the trainer's room? Trainer: What's wrong? Did something happen? Rulership: What do you mean 'did something happen'? I was just passing by, okay? Hahaha, isn't that obvious just by looking? ...Well then, excuse me. Trainer: (...?) --------IN RULERSHIP'S NEET ROOM------- Rulership: That was way too close...! If they figured out I was just pacing around out there for no reason, how embarrassing would that be...! Ugh, what do I usually do at times like this? Uhhh... hmmm... Rulership: I mean, is there even any point in meeting up when I don't have business with them...? Yes, there is! Of course there is! Good communication is essential for racing, isn't it? But still, getting too friendly might be a bit much... It's easy enough for me to reach out, but... Rulership: (Just picture it. If someone like me ran up to them like a needy little puppy for no reason at all...) Rulership's Fantasy: Trainer! Ehehe, I came to see you~♪ Trainer in Rulership's Fantasy: Uh, what's with you all of a sudden? I didn't know Rulership was like this... Rulership: EWWWWWWW!! No way! That's way too lame! I could never recover from that!!
