The IRS considers tips on CC as cash. But to get the tax deduction you HAVE to report it. So if you weren't reporting before you weren't paying taxes. Now people will report it and guess what states that have income taxes tax tips. So now you'll be reporting more income

Apparently “cash tips” defined by the IRS and in the context of the bill includes cash, debit, and credit tips. The IRS goes on to define “noncash tips” as being vouchers, event tickets, and coupons given as a tip. I think this one is just a misunderstanding.

She's right. . . Most people tap out of their cash at the beginning of the month and then live off of their credit cards. That includes activities like eating/drinking out. This has been a "norm" for much longer than what she's referencing.

If you have to pay for your dinner with a card, go ahead, but ALWAYS leave the tip in cash.
