Nobody speaks like this - it’s a mangled word salad - the way I speak and words I use as a West Lothian working class man are very different from that of my peers in Glasgow, the Islands or Dundee - mixing the language from different areas sounds very odd

It’s sort of synchronistic, like he’s trying to create a new language. My work took me all over Scotland and I never heard anyone speak like this. My grandparents were respectively working class Glasgow and Alloa, born over 100 years ago, and none spoke remotely in this fashion.

I think that mangling is the key issue, like using weans and bairns. He's from Ayrshire so why not speak the way people from the Valley speak? Why force in Doric and what's a lied?

I was born in Glasgow and lived there for a long time, I now live in Stirling and have for many years and I can say I have never heard anyone speak like that . It's utter rubbish.

Yep, that's what they do - take area specific dialects, mangle them together and claim it is a national language. It is a fraud. I just remind them it is really Northumbrian (Scots is part of the Great Northumbrian Language Group) and they get totally triggered! Ha ha ha

The formal register has been largely lost from Scots. We can recreate it (and feel a bit weird doing it) or we can allow Scots to be limited to the domestic setting and the pub, and thence to oblivion.

How long was he practicing this speech. Never heard anyone in Scotland speak like this. Reading too much Oor Wullie and the Broons
