None of us will ever be as cool as Glenn Miller.

With John Payne “on” the piano and Sonja Henie looking on. From the movie “Sun Valley Serenade”.

His brother Herb later has a band that played Glenn’s music. I met him in 1985/1986 and he was quite a character. I was the night receptionist in a hotel in Denmark where they stayed. After the concert they came back and wanted beer and food - beyond the boring stuff in the refrigerator in the reception. So suddenly I was also the cook. And beer man. The tips were generous

That’s awesome!

Glenn Miller's cool came from being born in Iowa.

“In The Mood”

I remember listening to this with my grandfather and other older WW2 family members

Just so clean, classy and brilliant

Major Glenn Miller. Gave up $20,000 a WEEK to enlist at 38, married, bad eyesight NO WAY drafted. Wanted "streamlining modern military music" to express his "sincere desire to do a real job for the Army that is not actuated by any personal draft problem." 🇺🇸was & is not all bad.

That's the great Billy May on trumpet. Later conductor arranger for Sinatra in the 50s and 60s. A musical genius who used to write arrangements for the next song while Frank was singing the first one.

That's one of the greatest orchestras, with Tommy Dorsey's in the same period.
