Here's my take, maybe the weather was really cold and the cow needed somewhere warm. The car may have been driven not too long ago before it was parked, meaning the engine and bonnet of the car should still be warm. Walking pass the car, the cow must have sensed heat and choose to lay on it to help get some warmth. My $0.02.
