NORTH BY NORTHWEST (1959) Cary Grant stars as an innocent man mistaken for a spy in one of director Alfred Hitchcock’s greatest thrillers, featuring some of the Master of Suspense’s most indelible set pieces.

North by Northwest (1959) I love how Cary Grant subtly nudges the actor beside him, reminding him to lean as the rear projection background shifts. It’s such a charming moment—and no one seems to mind.

The crop duster chase in North by Northwest (1959) still feels unbelievably modern. Hitchcock takes an empty field with almost nowhere to hide and somehow turns it into one of the most suspenseful chase scenes ever filmed.

The crop-duster attack in North by Northwest (1959) is Hitchcock flexing. He takes away the shadows and the safety of night, leaves Cary Grant alone in the open, and still builds one of the most iconic suspense scenes ever filmed.

From the beginning, Alfred Hitchcock and Ernest Lehman planned on casting Cary Grant as the leading man in "North by Northwest" (1959) even though James Stewart showed extreme interest in the project despite his ignorance of the plot. When Stewart left to film 'Bell, Book and Candle' (1958), Hitchcock was relieved of the unpleasant task of telling him he didn't get the role. During the filming, Cary Grant said to Hitchcock, "It's a terrible script. We've already done a third of the picture and I still can't make head or tail of it." The comment greatly amused Hitchcock because, far from being a flaw, that exactly mirrored what Grant's character was feeling as well. Grant thought the movie would be a flop right up until its premiere, where it was rapturously received. ("North By Northwest (1959)", Lang Thompson, TCM, 2005 & IMDb) P.S: On this day, 67 years ago, "North by Northwest" (1959) premiered in Chicago, Illinois, USA

The most famous scene in "North By Northwest" (1959) started as an absurd idea: A hero terrorized by a tornado. No one knew how the film's villain would've gotten control of the weather, so they used a crop duster instead. One of cinema's most iconic set pieces was born:

Eva Marie Saint turns 102 today North by Northwest (1959) She’s the oldest living Oscar winner and one of the last surviving stars of Hollywood’s Golden Age. Her scene with Cary Grant is still among the hottest ever filmed; every look, pause, and line lands. This is how it’s done

What?! Cary Grant is trending, and nobody invited me? Almost time to rewatch The Bishop's Wife, then North by Northwest, To Catch a Thief, maybe Charade...
