In the energy world, this is blocking and tackling on the demand side: conservation and efficiency. Set back your thermostat to lower temperatures when you're not home. Set to lower temperatures when you are home. Turn down your hot water temperature. Take showers instead of baths. Take shorter showers. Wash your clothes in cold water. Seal windows. Prepare meals that require less cooking. Don't run exhaust fans unless necessary. Add insulation if practical (it'll save you air conditioning electrical costs in summer, too). If you have a wood burning stove, use it. Wear warmer clothing inside (maybe even a hat). Limit going outside and opening and closing of exterior doors. If you've got the money to waste on heat, then do what you like. But for the rest of us, even some of these strategies will save you money as gas prices continue to rise. Hang in there, peeps. Put on clothes and get under blankets. Don’t mess with the thermometer. Turn off all lights and electronics not being used. That should help.

Florida here: last summer I went to the Dollar Tree and bought 20 of those windshield reflectors and taped them on my 6 west facing windows. 20 bucks! And my next electric bill was down $60!!

February is always cold . February made me shiver with every paper I delivered.

During super cold times I pile my extra pillows and blankets around exterior door frames. Sounds silly, but it helps. Small things like that add up.

Due to a winter storm several years ago, we were without power for more than a week. We huddled and slept in one room with a couple of these nifty low cost heaters. They're enough to take the chill and dampness out of a space. It works quite well.

Installed a heat pump and furnance as our second heat source of propane in JulyI also have solar panels and switched my supplier here in WMass. My electric/heat bill was $618 in January and $578 this month. The total combined is less than last year and we had a warmer winter.
