Grok / xAI please fix your algorithm and stop recommending me such cheap AI videos, which have nothing to do how things are actually built in real life.

All good AI until right here

That will look great when it sinks into the ground.

Zero footer, zero prep, straight onto grass like gravity’s optional.

would you watch an entire video? All of that it’s just something to simulate the brain and give people ideas outside the box something that’s not so cookie cutter there’s an actual beautiful ideas on the Internet and with AI.

@RidgeRules828 The footer and the prep could have been done before she started laying the blocks. How many people out there will just start putting blocks on the grass with no clue how important that is?

@RidgeRules828 The same ones who will wear three masks and take seven jabs on demand of a totally experimental bio weapon

Nice but you may need a footer…

No digging and no leveling of the blocks. How long realistically is that going to last and stay level? I see plenty of problems.

Until the ground settles under the blocks

No footing. Cinder blocks aren't secured to the deck or each other. That is an accident waiting to happen.

RochesterGal's profile picture

It looks nice but that is a temporary situation, those blocks will sink and they will probably all sink at different times creating a mess and I wouldnt have built that w/o hand rails.

for a few bucks it’ll get you started kinda like those stick on paper shades when you first move into a house. I’ve actually used this method to make benches and it works quite well. You just have to have the right wood in the right bricks and you can’t get it done in 30 seconds like the video.

funny how that ground is perfectly level with no work at all

Except this would never pass a code inspection. Stairs have to be a specific height and there are no railings, which are also code in many areas. There are a dozen things that would fail this.

@grok explain why this is dangerous for so many reasons. Can risers be 8 inches and not uniform? No footer, mortar, anchors?

The Curious Pollster's profile picture
The Curious Pollster4 months ago

@SUENUTTER115928 AI sure Creative use of bldg materials sure Needs a proper foundation, mortar, and the cells would need to be cleaned to remove excess build up and the wood would need to be larger and milled down to fit each cell individually. The idea could work, but unlikely.

Mrs T's profile picture
Mrs T4 months ago

@SUENUTTER115928 I’ve done it! Of course it is not a 30 second job like this but it comes out nice!

There's no doubt it can be done, the question is 'the build' and Code compliance. I've been a professional Carpenter since '94, had my own 25x35 furniture building shop, and a large-scale project General Superintendent since '02. I've built, and supervised, many projects. That said, this will fail the Ohio Building Code IBC and even the RCO for several reasons Uniform height of steps, handrails required with 4 or more risers, riser max height of 8.25", and using masonry block doesn't provide the proper tread depth. While this looks great in AI, in Ohio, this is only a building code and safety violation.

Hopefully you build it better than this portrays The boards do not even go into the blocks on the right side. The holes magically disappear in the 2nd tier nearest the camera. Must be AI

How does she have a smile on her face the whole time she’s building that thing and I have a basin company I do Brick and Blockwork every day and I never thought of doing something like that but without a good base, those are gonna sink anytime it rains

🤦‍♂️Is this a trap for her mother-in-law? Give it a few years of settling and ground heave and someone will break their neck on those steps. If this is AI, there's nothing intelligent about it.

Mrs T's profile picture
Mrs T4 months ago

i’ve done it. It depends on the climate and the surface you’re putting it on; it works.

dualbore's profile picture
dualbore4 months ago

I believe you, Mrs T. And that's true. But there's no way it can pass codes and puts you at great liability. Building codes are really stringent when it comes to stairs. I apologize for the snarky tweet. I was just commenting on the video that came through my tl and forgot about a real person being behind it. I always try to avoid doing that and failed in this case. Sincere apologies on the tone.

1. No sturdy foundational base. 2. No lateral strengthening 3. No mortar between the blocks. This catastrophe will not last beyond a few weeks or months.

Mike Smith's profile picture

More AI rubbish, no foundations and you cannot push the step in place like that it needs threading through the opposite blocks not at an angle

Not b9lted properly not set in concrete right that is a violation of so many levels and so not safe. Any inspector would take one look and say nope.

Stephen Malbon's profile picture

Yeah, that’s going to last really well sitting straight on the ground with no foundations, no mortar between the blocks and nothing retaining the steps.

🇺🇸 Billy C 🇺🇸's profile picture

@DewyDoRight While there’s probably just enough offset on the stacks to be stable, that needs a pad otherwise it’s prone to failure. Also, you need to get lucky with the deck height to meet riser code with 8x8x16 block. But it’s a cool idea.

The blocks need a footing,Possibly some starter bars as well to secure..I would prefer to see some cement layed blocks rather than adhesive. Otherwise good idea

IM12DV8's profile picture

cool idea, but some things the AI didn't think through. 1) Youre going to have to have some sort of footing under the concrete blocks 2) The wood will have a larger gap unless you form a tenon at the ends 3) You wont be able to get the wood snug in those cells just inserting

Let’s see. It’s going to rain, the ground will soften, one side will sink lower than the other. Then the entire mess will tip when someone is trying to use them.
