This is the #1 news show in France, and the host - David Pujadas - asks the pundits around the table (a sample of the top media figures in France) if they can name 3 living Chinese people. That's it: they just need to say the names of 3 living Chinese people, anyone. This should be extremely easy. Yet not of a single one of them can name a single Chinese beyond Xi Jinping. They do not know a single living Chinese person beyond the president. That's the level of ignorance of China we're dealing with in the West today, in 2026. Now they're using Chinese factories to build their own cars cheaper and ship them back home. VW says it can produce an EV in China for half what it costs anywhere else. Nissan is targeting 300,000 exports from China by 2030. A Chinese-made Chery became the best-selling new car in the UK in March. China can produce up to 50 million cars a year but only sold 24 million domestically last year, so factories are desperate for volume. Chinese car exports have gone from under 1 million in 2020 to over 7 million last year. Meanwhile, some European factories are running below 50% capacity. Umuada are Daughters from a village. — Simply; female offsprings of men from a village in Igboland. Not just from a kindred, a kindred is linked to one ancestor. But village is made up of multiple kindreds e.g. Ezeoke, Obiangwu, Umualumaku etc. They do festivals together as a unit. In essence, unless you were born by an Igbo man, you cannot be an Umuada. Also Igbo marriage doesn’t strip your identity, it only modifies and adopts you. A non-Igbo married to an Igbo man doesn’t become an Igbo person, but by marriage affiliation she’s accorded all due respect and privilege as a — Wife (inyom di) But if she ever has female kids, they are automatically Umuada, Male kids; Umunna and the kids will get full traditional rights, benefits and entitlement even after death. On burial, anyone fully married to an Igbo man is to be buried at the man’s village or hometown or compound anywhere it is; unless specially decided. It is unlikely for an Igbo man’s wife to be taken back to her paternal or maternal home for burial. This is also practiced in South South. The fact is, if an Igbo man marries a Jamaican, Yoruba, Hausa etc. They remain Jamaican, Yoruba, or Hausa. The woman’s ancestry and identity is linked to her father, so will her own kids be linked to her Igbo husband. All of this started after “Lagos Igbo-Feminists” attacked Nwanyi Ocha for advising Ndi Igbo to always take their kids home, after her son met a Igbo kid in Switzerland who doesn’t know what state he’s from in Nigeria. Offended Igbo women shunned Nwanyi Ocha, saying she doesn’t have the right to speak or advise Igbo culture, because she’s not Igbo, an outsider. The toilet-bag memes are funny. But they are not the core issue. The core issue is this: Why were these ancient Chinese motifs allowed to be registered as private trademarks in the first place? And now that the problem has been exposed, should China revoke those registrations? Even Europe, the place that worships intellectual property law, has rejected Louis Vuitton’s attempt to monopolize overly basic patterns when they lack distinctiveness and belong to the public visual language. So why should China allow a foreign luxury house to fence off Chinese cultural heritage, register it as private property, and then sue Chinese businesses for touching their own civilizational soil? This is not just a trademark dispute. It is a question of whether ancient public culture can be converted into corporate territory. If LV can privatize Chinese decorative motifs, then what comes next? Dunhuang patterns? Hanfu elements? Suzhou garden windows? Tang murals? Traditional cloud patterns? Baoxiang flowers? Ancient architectural geometry? At this point, this stops being intellectual property. It becomes cultural enclosure. LV did not just offend Chinese consumers. It exposed a loophole through which foreign brands can legally occupy Chinese civilization. That loophole should be closed. And those trademarks should be challenged. LV won a lawsuit. But the real question now is whether China will allow its own cultural commons to remain trapped inside a foreign brand’s legal cage.
